How to stream Foxtel Now with unmetered downloads

You're already paying for Foxtel Now; you shouldn't have to pay for extra data too.

Foxtel Now has a lot to offer fans of premium entertainment, but it comes at a cost – not just to your wallet, but to your data cap, too.

By Foxtel's own calculations, watching two hours of Internet TV per day, seven days a week at the highest video quality available would use around 192GB of data per month. Even if you set the video quality to its Standard Definition, two hours of TV a day will use around 84GB of data per month. This is a lot of data, especially if you're on a capped plan or if you pay for your usage per GB.

To avoid getting slugged with excess data charges, you need a broadband plan that either includes unmetered access to Foxtel Now, or has a completely unlimited data cap.

What is unmetered downloading and why do I need it?

Unmetered downloads are those that aren't counted against your monthly data cap. If, for example, your Internet plan gave you unmetered Foxtel Now, you could watch as many episodes of Game of Thrones as you like without it ever counting against your monthly quota. This is especially useful if you have a low Internet data cap or a lot of people in your house downloading on a regular basis. With unmetered streaming, you don't need to worry about the excess usage fees or slower speeds associated with going over your monthly limit.

Unfortunately, there's only one broadband provider that offers unmetered Foxtel Now, and that's Foxtel itself. This is a bit of a moot point, since Foxtel's broadband plans already come with unlimited data.

What other options are there?

Unmetered Foxtel Now isn't the only way to enjoy worry-free Game of Thrones bingeing. An increasing number of broadband providers are shifting to only offering unlimited Internet plans, making it cheaper and easier than ever to ditch data caps entirely. We've already compared the unlimited broadband plans currently available, so check out the table below to find a new plan suitable for streaming Foxtel Now.

This is not correct. I am a Telstra Bigpond customer and Foxtel Now is using normal data, not unmetered. Foxtel’s own site says only Foxtel Broadband is unmetered and others are unknown to them.

      Hi Brannor,

Thanks for the update. We were previously informed by Telstra that Foxtel Now would be unmetered on its fixed Broadband plans, but it seems that is no longer the case. We have updated our information to reflect this.

      Thanks for your helpful feedback!
