What's streaming?

If you’re new to internet television then you might not have heard the word streaming before. Streaming is how you watch television over the internet. Put very simply, you temporarily download content at the same time as you watch it. Streaming has become much more popular in recent years with the advent of internet television services such as Netflix, Stan, Presto and Quickflix.

What devices are compatible with Plus 7 TV?

Plus7 is available online, through any internet browser, including internet explorer, safari, google chrome or firefox. Simply head over to the website to begin browsing through the list of available programs.

For devices such as iPhones, Android phones or tablets, it is also possible to download a device specific app to access Plus7. This provides a specific interface and the neat access to your the shows and movies that you would like to watch.

It should be noted that not all programs that are shown on Channel Seven are available to watch on Plus7. Licensing laws, particularly with international content, is very complicated and prevents content from being available online. It is very possible to check through what content is and isn’t available online, simply head over to their website and browse through their catalogue.

Frequently asked questions

Plus7 is an online extension of Channel Seven, which is a free-to-air television network. This means that there is no cost to access hours of great content online.

Good question. Streaming is quite an intense activity in internet terms, certainly more intense than browsing website, or even scrolling through social media. It is recommended that for optimum streaming of standard quality content you have an internet speed of at least 3.0 megabits per second. If you’re not sure what speed your internet is then check with your provider.

If you have a data limit on your broadband then watching content on Plus7 will count towards your allowance. Streaming can be quite data intensive, so if you have a low limit, perhaps it is worth looking at getting a little more. We’ve reviewed a lot of broadband providers to help you compare your plan.

Absolutely. You might have heard that streaming is illegal, or against piracy laws, and while this is occasionally true, Plus7 is a fully legal service offered by the provider and owner of Channel Seven content.

Sadly not. Plus7 is only available in Australia. However, if you’re interested, it is possible to view the content using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). We’ve compiled a handy list of the major VPN providers including their services, cost and benefits of subscription.

For sometime now the plus7 app does not work. I always get video currently not available.
I use VPN so that is not the problem. I use the iPhone.
Will you get this fixed as I only can watch the shows by using the app. It is so utterly frustrating.

Hey. I tried streaming Plus7 shows, but I only get the message “this player is unable to play this protected content at this time”. I’m using HMA VPN with an IP address set to Australia. Any tips on how I can view the content? Perhaps Plus7 has started refusing people to watch through VPN like many other streaming sites?

From the sounds of it, you’re more hitting a DRM issue rather than a strict geoblocking issue (although that’s always feasible too). If you’ve got access to a secondary device you can apply your HMA credentials to, it may be worth checking there; equally try accessing other known Australian generally geoblocked content (iView, SBS On Demand, etc) to see if it’s an issue at HMA’s end.

I have a Roku 4 streaming device which is fast, responsive, HDMI and Optical audio out for surround sound and a joy to use with Netflix and Presto. I used to be able to cast from iPad browser on plus 7 to Roku and now with plus 7 I keep being directed that content only available on my device using the iOs app which only works with airplay/Apple tv and not Roku.
given that Telstra TV is a very basic slow lesser quality version of the Roku product will/can Plus7 make your Telstra tv app and channel code available on the Roku app store any time soon or could you consider including a stream or cast to Roku button within the iOs app?
Thank you for your time and trouble.

      Hi Peter,

You’ve reached, not Telstra. I would recommend contacting Telstra’s customer support channel with your query.

      Hi Brodie,

Thank you for your suggestion. I have already made contact with Telstra TV support. The Telstra TV has it’s own apps. Telstra said get in touch with the app/channel providers as they don’t make the channels/apps. Roku have said ask the channel/app providers as well. The channel/app providers have all said ask Telstra TV support or Roku support.

Everyone says not my problem ask someone else so I’m between a rock and a hard place.

      Hi there,

I would suggest updating your list of apps. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • Select the video icon through the home menu.
    • Press the options button.
    • Accept the agreement (if prompted)
    • Select update list. If it doesn’t appears, press the arrow down and select the last option available under the video and press the option button

How can I get AirPlay to work with Plus 7 TV so as to get video/sound on to my TV set via Apple TV. It works fine with the ABC equivalent but the AirPlay icon does not appear on the iPad screen with Plus 7.

      Hi Noel,

While using Plus 7, try swiping up to reveal the control centre. Above the camera icon, you should see an Airplay icon, tap that and it should start streaming the content from your device to Apple TV.

      Hi Bryan,

This is not an uncommon issue. If possible, I would recommend deleting the PLUS7 app or Freeview app (whichever you use) and reinstalling it. This seems to be the only solution available at the moment.
