Get ready for summer with this comprehensive look at cricket coverage in Australia.

With the Australian cricket season only running for six months of the year, it's important to make the most of every six, every catch and every over. While watching it all on free-to-air TV is a perfectly serviceable solution, if you really want to live and breathe all things cricket, you'll want to check out the Cricket Australia Live app or via Foxtel's HD and 4K streaming options.

A new TV deal sees most of the cricket action exclusive to Foxtel, with Seven also joining in the fun. As a result, only a handful of games will be available to stream with the Cricket Australia Live app (which was once the go-to destination for watching wickets).

All Test cricket and most of the Big Bash League will be simulcast on Foxtel and Channel Seven, but you might want to get a Foxtel Sport subscription if you’re a dedicated cricket fan. The pay TV giant is set to offer more cricket coverage than ever before.

Option 1: Live streaming cricket matches in HD with Kayo

Kayo Sports has access to all FOX SPORTS channels and extensive coverage of the 2018/2019 cricket season.

The Kayo streaming app offers live HD streams on a wide range of devices, "SplitView" picture-in-picture streaming and live stats and scores with no lock-in contracts. There are two price points: $25 and $35 per month for 2 and 3 simultaneous streams respectively and each can be trialled for 14 days without paying cent.

Kayo has the rights to stream all Big Bash League matches, select T20 matches and select Test Matches.

Option 2: Live streaming cricket matches in HD with Foxtel

Starting with the 2018/2019 season, Foxtel has expanded its cricket coverage. It launched a dedicated cricket channel in September, FOX Cricket, which will host live games as well as commentary and additional cricket-related programming. According to the new TV deal, Foxtel has the rights to all men’s Tests, all women’s internationals, men’s ODIs, men’s T20Is, BBL (43 matches simulcast with Seven and 16 exclusive matches) and WBBL (23 matches).

To watch on the big screen you’ll need a Foxtel subscription with the Sport Package. Once that’s done, you can stream matches live to your mobile device or laptop with the Foxtel GO app, available for free to all subscribers. All you need to do is to download the app from Google Play or the App Store and log in with your Foxtel ID. To watch on your computer, access the Foxtel website and check out the Foxtel GO page.

Foxtel is the only provider currently live streaming cricket in HD and will become the first broadcaster to stream the cricket in 4K when 2018's men's international cricket and Big Bash League games begin.

Alternatively, you can stream cricket matches with Foxtel Now, as FOX Cricket is available in the Sport Pack. Sport is a premium pack, priced at $29/month. You’ll need the Pop and Lifestyle entry pack, which costs $25/month, to gain access to Sport, bringing your monthly subscription price to $54. Users can stream Foxtel Now with a variety of devices, including PCs/Macs, mobile devices, Chromecast/Airplay, PS4, Telstra TV and the Foxtel Now Box (Foxtel's own streaming media device). A free two-week trial is available for new customers.

Option 3: Watching cricket matches on free-to-air

If you’re a casual cricket fan, free-to-air should satisfy your cricket cravings. The new TV deal sees Seven taking over the free-to-air rights from the Nine and Ten networks. Fans can check out all men's Test matches and all Commonwealth Bank women's internationals on free-to-air, which will be simulcast with Foxtel. Additionally, Seven will also show 43 KFC Big Bash League and 23 Rebel Women's BBL games each season.

Option 4: Streaming cricket matches with Cricket Australia Live

The Cricket Australia Live app will be undergoing some changes following the new TV deal. The app will live stream 36 WBBL games not shown on Seven and Fox Sports, as well as offer on-demand highlights of all cricket played in Australia. Moreover, the app will carry broadcast-quality streaming of other matches not shown on television, including some international tour matches and non-broadcast JLT Sheffield Shield and JLT One-Day Cup games. Streams will also be available on the Cricket Australia website.

The Live Pass subscriptions have been discontinued, so streaming for some of the matches played by the Australian teams in Australia will be free of charge. However, additional charges may occur for any other games.

Getting started with Cricket Australia Live is as simple as downloading the free app to a compatible Android or iOS device. You’ll get instant access to highlights, news, live scores and statistics. On an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, you'll need to be running iOS 9.0 or later. On an Android phone or tablet, you'll need Android 4.1 or later.
