New on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, Stan, Foxtel, BINGE and more in June 2022

As far as shows and movies are concerned, winter is off to a strong start.

June is a good month to be into superheroes. From a new Marvel show to returning hits, (anti)heroes will be making a splash in the weeks to come. Plus, gear up for an impressive list of exciting movies, prestige crime dramas and local productions that will have you glued to the screen. Narrow down your watchlist with the highlights new on streaming below.

What's new on Netflix

Netflix is still churning out a ridiculous amount of content, so you won't run out of stuff to watch anytime soon. June brings subscribers a new season of popular series The Umbrella Academy, which revolves around a dysfunctional family of superheroes.

Additionally, we're finally getting the sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders. As Prohibition ends, Tommy turns toward the opium trade and may be forced to ally with his worst enemies. What could possibly go wrong?

As for new shows, vampire enthusiasts might be interested in First Kill, which follows 2 teen girls who fall for each other. The problem? One of them is a vampire, the other is a vampire hunter. We expect things to get awkward, to say the least.

For something lighthearted, God's Favorite Idiot stars Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone and centres on a sweet soul on a mission from God. British comedian Rowan Atkinson returns to television in Man Vs. Bee, described as an almost silent comedy about a house sitter's war with a bee. Oh, and if you loved Money Heist, you'll probably like Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area. It's a Korean re-imagining about a group of thieves who try to pull off an ingenious criminal operation.

More into movies? Keep an eye out for Interceptor, an action-packed flick in which Elsa Pataky plays a captain who needs to defend the remote missile interceptor station when it's targeted by a vicious attack.

Meanwhile, Adam Sandler plays a down-on-his-luck basketball scout in Hustle and Chris Hemsworth leads an appealing ensemble in Spiderhead, a sci-fi thriller set at a facility that performs experiments on convicts.

What's new on BINGE and Foxtel

BINGE kicks off June with Irma Vep, a highly-anticipated series starring Alicia Vikander. She plays an American movie star disillusioned with her career who goes to France to appear in a remake of the French silent film classic Les Vampires. It looks like the show won't be afraid to get meta, so we expect it to be a hit among movie buffs in particular. The timely doco The Janes drops in June too, about a group of abortion activists in the pre-Roe vs Wade era.

This month also marks the return of popular series Westworld with season 4, a dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth; and of Roswell, New Mexico, which is scheduled to end after this upcoming fourth season.

These titles will be on Foxtel too. Plus, buckle up for The Twelve, an original crime drama starring Sam Neill, Marta Dusseldorp, Kate Mulvany, Brendan Cowell and Pallavi Sharda, among others. It revolves around 12 ordinary citizens summoned for jury duty for a gripping murder case. Judging by the trailer, it will be must-watch TV.

Eye-catching movies new to Foxtel in June include Zola, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Father of the Bride and Last Night in Soho. A documentary to look out for is Gamestop: The Wall Street Hijack about how amateur traders banded together in an effort to disrupt the stock market.

What's new on Stan

Over on Stan, new comedy Everything I Know About Love, based on Dolly Alderton's funny memoir of the same name, is described as a surviving guide for your 20s, tackling friendship, bad dates and love.

June also brings the premiere of Queer as Folk, a vibrant reimagining of the iconic 90's British series. It revolves around a group of club-going friends whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

You might also like The Lazarus Project, a time-bending psychological thriller about an average guy who wakes up one morning to find himself reliving a day from his months-long past. Or The Midwich Cuckoos, a sinister sci-fi thriller about a sleepy English town under siege by a paranormal threat.

Rutherford Falls and P-Valley return with new seasons.

What's new on Amazon Prime Video

On Prime Video, The Boys are finally back in town. The superhero hit returns with season 3, which sees Jensen Ackles join the cast as Soldier Boy. It's going to be a bloody, highly entertaining affair.

Not that much into gruesome fights and morally reprehensible people? You might prefer The Summer I Turned Pretty, a multigenerational drama that hinges on a love triangle between a girl and 2 brothers. It's based on a book series by Jenny Han, who also penned the To All the Boys I've Loved Before novels.

Viewers craving thrills should check out Chloe, about a young woman whose obsession with the picture-perfect lives on Instagram sees her assume a new identity. For laughs, binge The Lake, a comedy that centres on a gay divorcee who hopes to reconnect with the biological daughter he gave up for adoption in his teens. It stars Emily Roman, Jordan Gavaris, Julia Stiles and Madison Shamoun. Also look for the fake dating rom-com My Fake Boyfriend starring Australian Keiynan Lonsdale.

What's new on Disney Plus

Disney Plus is releasing a new Marvel series this month. Ms. Marvel follows Kamala, a teen superhero fan who feels like she doesn't really fit in. When she develops superpowers of her own, she needs to figure out how to use them and do all the heroes that came before her justice.

Elsewhere, beloved series Only Murders in the Building returns with season 2. Starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short, the show followed the unlikely trio as they investigated a murder in season 1. Now, they find themselves as suspects in a new investigation. Cara Delevingne joins the cast for season 2. Charming series Love, Victor returns with season 3, which will be the show's last.

Fans of true crime and/or Andrew Garfield should definitely check out Under the Banner of Heaven, about a detective who investigates a brutal double murder in the 80s which puts his own faith at test. For something you can watch with the kids, Baymax! is a new animated series revolving around the lovable robot from Big Hero 6.

In light of Disney taking back FX content, season 3 of Breeders premieres 15 June. The dark comedy follows Paul (Martin Freeman - Captain America: Civil War, Fargo) and Ally (Daisy Haggard - Back to Life) as they struggle with day-to-day parenting.

There will be plenty of movies to keep you entertained too. Queer rom-com Fire Island will release on the service, as will NBA-centred drama Rise and after its massive run at the cinema, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will finally hit streaming. Also look out for sports drama Rise about NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

What's new on Paramount Plus

South Park fans have plenty of reason to sign up for Paramount Plus this month, as the platform is premiering a new special. In South Park: The Streaming Wars, Cartman locks horns with his mum while an epic conflict unfolds and everyone else is up to crazy hijinks. That's pretty much all we know, but seeing more of Stan, Kyle and the rest of the gang should be a hoot.

Additionally, June marks the release of new seasons for Evil, In the Dark and Ziwe. For brand new titles to get hooked on, Long Slow Exhale looks promising. It's set in the world of women's college basketball and revolves around a head coach who finds herself in the middle of a sexual abuse scandal.

Alternatively, you might like Tom Swift, a Nancy Drew spin-off about a brilliant inventor whose world turns upside down when his father goes missing. If you liked American Vandal on Netflix, new show Players will be right up your alley. It's coming from the same creators and follows a League of Legends esports team as they pursue their first championship.

Paramount Plus will also debut some exclusive films this month. The feel-good, crowd-pleasing comedy Jerry and Marge Go Large stars Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Annette Bening (American Beauty, Captain Marvel) as the titular husband and wife who legally game the lottery system. It's based on a true story. Animated sci-fi comedy Beavis and Butt-Head do the Universe features the characters from the cult '90s series back in their second feature film.

What's new on BritBox, AcornTV, Shudder, SBS and more

BritBox is bringing new series Magpie Murders to Australia, a delightful cosy mystery based on the book of the same name by Anthony Horowitz. Additionally, subscribers can watch season 2 of The Other One, 5 seasons of Shetland and the complete boxset of witty dramedy Stella.

Acorn TV brings subscribers series 3 of riveting series London Kills and new crime drama One Lane Bridge.

On Shudder, buckle up for Revealer, an original movie about a stripper and a religious protester who are trapped together in a peep show booth and have to find a way to survive the Apocalypse. Into reality? hayu will premiere new shows The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Ex Wives Club and The Real Housewives of Dubai.

Over at AMC+, Dark Winds is a new show set in the 70s about a series of seemingly unrelated crimes and the demons that the people looking into them have to face. If you prefer your entertainment free, SBS On Demand premieres new British series D.I. Ray, as well as new episodes of Wisting and The Orville.
