HTC's new range brought to U exclusively by Vodafone.

HTC's latest premium range, the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play, were announced shortly after CES 2017, effectively eliminating any chance of a MWC 2017 reveal. While we've spent some time toying with the HTC U Ultra back in January, we've been in the dark about Australian plans, pricing and availability until now.

HTC announced today that the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play would be available in Australia on contract exclusively through Vodafone on Wednesday 8 March 2017.

If you're looking to fork out the cash upfront for HTC's latest, both handsets will sell exclusively through JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman. It's worth noting that all handsets come packaged with a clear case and HTC's fancy new Usonic headphones.

When the HTC U and HTC U Play launch, they will be available for outright purchase. The HTC U Ultra has a recommended retail price of $1,199 and the HTC U Play is priced at $799. Both handsets are available outright in Sapphire Blue, Cosmetic Pink and Brilliant Black.

HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play plan prices

HTC announced during its briefing today that the HTC U Ultra would set Vodafone customers back an extra $8 per month on a 24-month, $80 MyMix plan, bringing the total monthly cost to $88. That's $192 over 24 months for the handset itself and a total minimum cost of $2,112 for the plan and handset over 24 months. Vodafone's $80 MyMix plan included 10GB of data, unlimited standard national calls and unlimited standard national text.

As a special promotion for the HTC U Ultra, Vodafone will also give you give you free access for your first two months of select HTC U Ultra plans. That means you don't pay a cent for the first two months knock $176 off the total minimum cost. Students can also take an additional 10% per month off their monthly access fee with Vodafone's $80 MyMix Data Lover plan (what a mouthful). The HTC U Ultra is available in Sapphire Blue, Brilliant Black, Ice White and Cosmetic Pink.
