How do I apply for HSBC Travel Insurance travel insurance?

  1. Compare the policies. Depending on your destination and how much cover you’d like for your journey, you have the choice of four policies for local and international journeys.
  2. Online quotes. You can get an online quote on HSBC website by entering your personal and travel details.
  3. Read the PDS. Everything you need to know about the policies is laid out in the policy disclosure statement, so make sure that the terms of the contract meet your insurance expectations.
  4. Additional options. If you require extra cover for special luggage or certain pre-existing medical conditions, make sure that your chosen policy can be upgraded to suit your needs.

How do I make a claim with HSBC Travel Insurance?

  • Have your information handy. When you get in touch, make sure you have your policy number with you. You should also provide information about the incident as well as details about the loss or damaged you suffered.
  • Be cooperative. Supply all the necessary information so that your claim is handled quickly and efficiently. Besides the claims form, you will also be asked to submit medical and police reports, proof of ownership, itineraries and luggage tags.
  • Respect the process. Let Allianz handle the details of your claim. Refrain from offering to pay damages or any financial reparation without consulting Allianz first.

HSBC Travel Insurance FAQ

If you’re interested in applying for HSBC Travel Insurance, here are a few frequently asked questions about the cover available.

  • Question: How is my premium calculated?
Answer: Your premium depends on your destination, the length of the journey and the amount of risk you represent to the insurer. The higher the risk, the higher the premium.
  • Question: When would I qualify for the loss of income benefit?
Answer: If you are injured and unable to work for 30 days after your return to Australia, you are eligible for a weekly loss of income benefit.
  • Question: I missed my best friend’s wedding because of travel delays. Can I claim?
Answer: If travel delays cause you to miss a special event such as a wedding, funeral, sporting event or pre-paid travel, you can claim under the section alternative travel expenses.
  • Question: Can I apply for cover with pre-existing conditions?
Answer: You can but the onus is on you to make sure that your illness or condition is covered by the terms of the contract. If not, you can apply for additional cover.
  • Question: Who can apply for HSBC Travel Insurance?
Answer: You can apply if you are an Australian resident, you purchase the policy before leaving on your trip and if your trip begins and ends in Australia.
  • Question: Can I cancel my HSBC Travel insurance policy if I’m not happy with it?
    Answer:
You can cancel your policy for a full refund during the cooling-off period of 14 days following the issue of your Certificate of Insurance. Provided you haven’t left on your trip or filed to claim from your policy, you will receive a full refund.
