How to earn Qantas Status Credits with ANZ and AMEX
Qantas’ latest promotion with American Express and ANZ lets you earn up to 75 Status Credits.
In a first for Qantas, frequent flyers can earn Status Credits as well as points for every dollar they spend on their credit card for a limited time. The Qantas bonus Status Credit offer is available to new applicants for the Qantas American Express Ultimate Card and the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Card.
Once you’ve applied and been approved for either of these cards by 1 May 2017, you need to use the card to book any return Qantas flight and complete your travel by 30 September 2017. Once you’ve done this, you’ll score a one-off bonus bounty of 75 Status Credits in addition to the points and credits you’d usually earn.
While you use points to redeem rewards, Status Credits can be used to ascend the Qantas loyalty tiers. Starting at Bronze and advancing to Silver, Gold and Platinum status, members can take advantage of perks such as higher earn rates, airline lounge access and flight seat upgrades as they move up the tiers.
You’d usually need to fly two return trips between Sydney and Melbourne on a Flexible Economy fare to rack up 75 Status Credits, so this is an easy way to give your Status Credits balance a boost without travelling the extra miles.
The benefits don’t end here, as cardholders who apply before 1 May can also enjoy up to 75,000 bonus Qantas Points. ANZ customers can look forward to the bonus points once they’ve spent $2,500 on eligible purchases in the first three months. Cardholders of the Qantas American Express Ultimate will need to spend $1,500 in the first three months to collect the bonus points. This is enough points to get you an Economy Flight Reward from Sydney to London. So, perhaps you could use the bonus points to grab that flight you need to pick up your 75 Status Credits?
While this is good news for ANZ and American Express customers, it comes just a week after American Express and ANZ parted ways and AMEX gave its Qantas credit card range a revamp.
