What is Pendle?

PENDLE is the native token of the Pendle protocol. It is an ERC-20 token built on Ethereum.

Pendle is a unique automated market maker (AMM) built on top of existing protocols. Pendle is the first protocol to allow for trading tokenized future yield. With Pendle, holders of assets that generate yield can lock in future yield up-front, without underlying collateral.

When holders of yield generating assets deposit their tokens on Pendle, the user mints ownership tokens (OT) and yield tokens (YT). Ownership tokens represent the underlying principle, while yield tokens can be used in two different ways: depositing YT to earn fees and selling YT.

Pendle (PENDLE) is the 793rd largest cryptocurrency in the world by market cap, valued at $31,805,461. The current price of Pendle is $0.401706, which is -6.096% lower than yesterday. Prices have ranged between $0.427784 and $0.40238 over the past 24 hours. All prices are listed in US dollars and accurate as of January 19, 2022 03:01 UTC.

What to consider when buying Pendle

PENDLE is the native utility token of the Pendle protocol, and investors of PENDLE should keep risks in mind, including:
  • HODLING. Long term holders can earn rewards for providing liquidity to pools available on the AMM. It is important to note that a hybrid inflation model was adopted by the protocol allowing a rate of 2% per annum after a 260 week period.
  • Future of the token. In the future, the token may also be used for governance. As such, holders of the token will be able to make proposals and vote on the future direction of the AMM.
  • Fluctuations. Price appreciation for PENDLE largely depends on the adoption of the Pendle AMM and the expansion of the protocol's assets. The Pendle protocol is reliant on the yield tokens of other DeFi protocols, like Aave and Compound.
