What to consider when buying Moonriver
When buying any cryptocurrency it is important to understand the risks associated with the underlying technology. In particular, buyers of MOVR should consider the following:
- Inflow of developers from Ethereum: As an EVM-compatible blockchain within the Kusama network, an increase or decrease of developers bringing in Ethereum code will likely affect the demand for the native MOVR token. The token is required for all smart contract payments so as the number of developers increases, the number of smart contract executions will likely increase accordingly.
- Future use-case: There may be a time when the Kusama network no longer benefits the Polkadot blockchain and the canary network is no longer necessary. While unlikely, potential investors should consider if the native cryptocurrency of Moonbeam, GLMR, would hold better investment potential.
- Fees compared to Polkadot network: One of the main advantages of the Kusama network is the ability to test code and features cheaply. If Polkadot fees are lower in the future, launching pre-tested code directly to Moonbeam and bypassing Moonriver, could hurt the price of MOVR. Likewise, if Polkadot fees increase, the demand for Moonriver and the Kusama network may increase.
- Competitors securing a parachain slot: Polkadot and Kusama offer 100 slots for protocols to bid DOT or KSM tokens to secure and join the network. It's possible that, in the future, another EVM compatible smart track platform may join the network that could compete with Moonriver to onboard Ethereum developers and builders. Potential investors of MOVR should pay close attention to the projects winning parachain auction slots within both Kusama and Polkadot. While newcomers may prove to be competition, Moonriver and Moonbeam will still likely hold a sizable advantage over any would-be newcomers.
- Staking: Moonriver uses a delegated Proof-of-Stake model where collators with the highest stake are picked to process transactions and produce network blocks for block rewards. Users can delegate MOVR tokens to collators, thereby increasing a collator's total stake and maintaining their eligibility to author blocks. In return for supporting collators, delegators are rewarded a portion of all block rewards.
- Questioned tokenomics:While marketed as a leading project on Kusama, Moonriver has received criticism since its launch for its tokenomics. There have also been block issues that have seen the token's value drop significantly. The native cryptocurrency to Moonbeam, GLMR, has also suffered. Make sure to do your own research on community unlocks before taking action.

If you store your Moonriver in a digital wallet, compare crypto exchanges to sell it on. - Place a sell order.
