A concealer that covers all bases.

Why we love this product

I discovered this concealer by hourglass in 2014 and I haven't used another concealer consistently since. Sure, I've given a few others a try but this is the only concealer product that has had a permanent home in my makeup bag for the last five years. It's that good.

When I first discovered this concealer, I was on the hunt for a new product. Something different than what I'd tried. I wasn't interested in liquid formula that dried and set. The skin around your eyes moves a lot as you blink and show expression, so setting formulas, in my opinion, are not ideal. I found that most liquid-setting formulas would flake, crease and crumble as your face moves over the course of a day. But I also wasn't after a concealer stick that was dry and stiff, I needed something that would blend easily.

The quick verdict

Why is it good? It provides great coverage with a seamless finish.

How much is it? $52

Where to buy it? Net-a-Porter and eBay.

I wanted a powerful undereye concealer that could cover all the grey and blue tones under my eyes. But I didn't want it to have that pinkish tone of many undereye concealers, because I wanted something I could use on the rest of my face and any blemishes too.

I needed something that wouldn't move around too much and settle in the creases of my eye. This was a concealer I was planning on wearing all day. And I needed something that I could continuously apply over the course of the day whenever I needed a touch up – without the original layer being disturbed or becoming patchy.

It was this long list of requirements that led me to Hourglasses Hidden Corrective Concealer. It ticks all my boxes.

This concealer stick is gloriously creamy and very blendable. You can pile it on or sheer it out with a brush. It's absolutely up to the task of correcting my undereye circles but it also works well on the rest of my face. In fact, I will often use this when contouring to lighten the high points of my face. It blends well with just about every foundation I've tried.

I find I get the best results when I layer two different colours. If I'm going for a glam makeup look with completly clear undereyes, I'll start with my darker summer shade of this concealer and then I'll finish up with my lighter winter shade. I find this technique erases any discolouration entirely. But for day to day, I'll just wear one shade and apply it with my finger. The warmth of my fingers gives the most seamless finish, but you can use these with a brush or sponge too if that is your preference.

This concealer covers all bases for me. You can dial it up or dial it down. It doesn't set and crack but it doesn't move too much either. It works all over the face and covers just about anything. Plus it's enriched with vitamin E for a little extra anti-oxidant protection.

The Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer comes in 10 shades and in a mixture of warm, cool and neutral undertones.

Hourglass products aren't cheap. It's a premium cosmetics brand with premium pricing and this concealer is $52. For me, this product is worth the money. But depending on your preferences, it might not be for you.

Where to buy

I personally buy my concealers at Net-a-Porter. I'll wait for the store to have a free shipping sale (which it does about every four months or so) and I'll stock up on concealer or any other premium beauty products I love – Net-a-Porter also stocks Charlotte Tilbury and Sunday Riley.

But of course, you can grab Hourglass products in store at eBay .
