Frequently asked questions about hot air ballooning in Adelaide

Where can I go hot air ballooning in Adelaide?

Hot air ballooning in the Adelaide area is centred on the Barossa Valley and the Murray River.

Barossa Valley Ballooning only has Barossa Valley flights while Barossa Balloon Adventures has Barossa Valley and Murray River flights.

How high does the hot air balloon fly?

The flight height depends on the strength of the wind. Typically, you'll fly anywhere from 1,000-4,000 feet above the ground.

How many people can fit in a hot air balloon?

Adelaide's commercial hot air balloons fit up to 16 passengers. Passengers are spread around the balloon, often with eight on either side of the basket.

Is there a minimum age to fly?

Yes. Due to safety precautions, passengers must be 6+ years to fly.

What types of clothing should I wear?

As you'll be flying before sunrise, it can start off quite cold at the beginning of your journey before the sun peeks above the horizon. You're advised to wear layers that you can take off as you warm up.

It's also a good idea to wear a hat as it can get hot standing next to the burner.

Closed shoes are mandatory for all passengers.

    Where exactly will we fly?

That's dependent on the wind direction. You could fly over the vineyards, nearby paddocks or even along the Murray River. On the day of your flight, the pilot assesses the wind speed and direction to determine the best pathway for your flight.
