Guild Insurance offers two home insurance policies. Home Essential is the provider's basic policy and Home Elite is the comprehensive option. For both policies you can choose three cover levels: home insurance, contents insurance and personal property insurance for unspecified personal items. All Australian homeowners are eligible for both policies and Guild's customers can make claims by phone 24/7.

Guild Insurance home insurance cover options

Home Essential Insurance

This is Guild Insurance’s standard home insurance package and it offers all the essential cover you need to guarantee peace of mind. It provides three cover choices: Home Insurance, Contents Insurance and Personal Property Insurance.

  • Home Insurance. This policy covers your home against loss or damage caused by accidental glass breakage, earthquake, escape of liquid, fire, explosion, flood, storm and more. Cover includes a 20% sum insured safety net, rebuilding costs, emergency accommodation costs and $20 million of legal liability cover.
  • Contents Insurance. Guild Home Essential Contents Insurance covers loss or damage to your contents caused by earthquake, escape of liquid, fire, explosion, malicious acts, storm, hail and theft. You can also enjoy Australia-wide cover for contents while temporarily removed from your address, as well as emergency accommodation costs, food spoilage, removal of damaged property and $20 million liability cover.
  • Personal Property Insurance. Personal Property Insurance from Guild provides cover for accidental loss or damage to your unspecified personal property items anywhere in Australia (up to $1,500 per item and up to a total of $10,000), and for periods of up to 30 consecutive days elsewhere around the world. It also provides cover for loss or damage to specified personal property items up to the limits shown in your policy schedule.

Home Elite Insurance

Home Elite Insurance provides comprehensive cover, offering extra features and higher benefit limits than Home Essential policies. It also provides the same three types of cover:

  • Home Insurance. Home Elite Home Insurance covers accidental loss or damage caused by flood, storm, fire, explosion, theft, vandalism, impact and more. The policy includes a 20% sum insured safety net and cover for rebuilding costs, emergency accommodation costs, locks and keys and more, as well as $20 million legal liability cover.
  • Contents Insurance. Home Elite Contents Insurance covers accidental loss or damage to your contents while in your home, including claims that arise as a result of flood. This includes Australia-wide cover for temporarily removed items, emergency and temporary accommodation costs, credit card cover and $20 million legal liability protection.
  • Personal Property Insurance. Personal Property Insurance covers accidental loss or damage to your unspecified personal property items anywhere in Australia (up to $2,500 per item and up to a total of $15,000), and for periods of up to 90 consecutive days elsewhere around the world. It also provides cover for loss or damage to specified personal property items up to the limits shown in your policy schedule.

General exclusions

Your Guild home insurance claim will not be paid if:

    • It is for damage caused by a named cyclone, bushfire or grassfire within 48 hours of cover commencing
    • Your home has been unoccupied for 60 or more consecutive days
    • It is for loss or damage to structural improvements, extensions or renovations where you have failed to gain the necessary approval from local authorities
    • It is for consequential loss of any kind
    • It is caused by an act by you intended to cause loss, damage or liability
    • It arises due to demolition ordered by the government or local authority
    • It is for an event that occurs while your home is under construction
    • It is for any building construction, renovation, alteration, addition, repair or decoration that exceeds $75,000
    • It arises due to mechanical, electric or electronic breakdown, failure or malfunction
  • It is caused by water seeping through walls, roofs or floors
  • It is caused by a tree or branch lopped by you, or on your behalf
  • It arises due to malicious, unlawful or dishonest acts by you or anyone else lawfully at your address
  • It arises due to wear and tear, depreciation or lack of maintenance
  • It arises due to structural defects or faulty workmanship
  • It is caused by rust, corrosion, mildew or rising damp
  • It results due to the action of insects, vermin and birds
  • It arises due to the lawful seizure or repossession of your home, contents or any personal property
  • It is caused by the destruction, corruption or erasure of electronic data

Guild home insurance excess

When you make a claim on your Guild home insurance policy, you may be required to pay an excess to contribute towards the cost of the claim. The amount of any excesses that apply is shown in your policy schedule.

Guild Insurance also gives you the option to adjust your excess higher in order to receive a lower premium. The higher the excess you choose, the cheaper your premium will be.

Who is eligible for Guild home insurance policies?

There are no special eligibility requirements you must satisfy in order to purchase a Guild home insurance policy. Cover is available to any Australian homeowner who wants to insure their home, contents and personal property.

Making a claim

When you need to make a claim, you can contact Guild’s claims team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will need to have the following information ready when you make the call:

  • Your policy number
  • Details of the event leading to the claim
  • An estimate of the resulting loss or damage

There are also a few other things you can do to ensure that your claim is processed as quickly as possible:

  • Report any malicious damage, theft or burglary to the police and obtain a copy of the police report
  • Do everything you reasonably can to prevent any further loss or damage
  • Provide any information or documentation the insurer requests
  • Allow access to your home so the insurer can investigate the cause of loss or damage
