What won't be covered?

Aussie home insurance will not pay your claim in the following circumstances:

  • It is caused by flooding (unless you have selected optional flood cover).
  • It is caused by a high tide, a storm surge or a tsunami.
  • It is caused by underground water seepage or pressure.
  • It is caused by the presence of asbestos.
  • You failed to maintain your home or contents in a reasonable condition.
  • Your home was unoccupied for more than 60 consecutive days.
  • It results because you broke the law.
  • It arises because you failed to comply with any government laws or regulations, for example failing to install smoke alarms or appropriate pool fencing.
  • It is for loss or damage to any part of the home specifically used for any business, trade or profession (please note that home offices are included in cover).
  • It is for consequential loss.
  • It arises due to structural defect or faulty workmanship.
  • It is caused by erosion, landslide, subsidence or any other type of earth movement (unless it occurs within 72 hours of and as a direct result of earthquake, explosion or storm and rainwater).
  • It is caused by rust, corrosion, rot, mould or gradual wear and tear.
  • It arises due to an intentional act by you, your family, or someone acting with your consent.
  • It arises due to lost or corrupted electronic files or data.
  • It arises due to mechanical or electrical breakdown.
  • It is caused by the lawful seizure or repossession of your home or contents.
  • It is caused by tree lopping or felling.
  • It is for loss or damage caused by bushfire, grassfire, storm or flood (if you have selected this option) within the first 72 hours of cover.
  • It is caused by insects, birds, rodents or vermin.

Making a claim

If you need to make a claim on your Aussie home or contents insurance policy, you can do so by phoning 1300 244 266. Aussie’s claims team will guide you through the entire process and answer any questions you may have. You must also follow a few simple steps to ensure the fast and smooth processing of your claim:

  • Take all reasonable steps to prevent any further loss or damage.
  • Report any theft, malicious damage or burglary to the police and obtain a copy of the incident report number.
  • Provide full details of the incident leading to your claim.
  • Provide evidence of the value and ownership of goods or property that has been lost, stolen or damaged.
  • Allow the insurer to inspect any damaged goods or property.
