Just because you're heading to paradise, doesn't mean you have to break the bank. To save a few extra dollars, we recommend finding accommodation that is further inland as beachfront and city centre properties will cost the most. You can also save by looking for stays that are shared or without features including multiple bedrooms, spas and pools.
You don't have to look far to find luxury in Port Douglas. If you're after the 5-star experience, then look for the beachfront properties off Port Douglas Road. Your pricier stays might also feature jacuzzis or pools, beachfront options and added extras you wouldn't normally get with a standard stay.
If you're looking for a stay that will accommodate your furry friends, then Port Douglas has you covered. You'll want to book places that have space to run around and possibly near a park or walkway. Some locations include beachfront lodges and homes further inland that have larger backyards.
Currently staying in a holiday home is illegal but you can still book for the future. It's recommended that you check the cancellation policy before booking.
Port Douglas is a beachside holiday town, so we recommend you pack a few things before you go. Items such as bathers, towels, snorkelling gear, sandals for the beach, surfboards or bodyboards will go a long way.
We recommend a few things when looking to book in Port Douglas. You'll want to book a stay that has air-conditioning (especially for holidays in the summer) and walking distance or a short drive to the beach. The main town is on the northern end of Davidson Road and is in close proximity to the shoreline.
The closest airport to Port Douglas is situated in Cairns. It will take an hour's car ride to reach Port Douglas, so we recommend organising a rental. Unfortunately, there is no public transport, but this will allow you to visit neighbouring coastal beaches and towns with no fuss. Keep in mind that you'll want to ensure your stay has adequate parking onsite.
If you'd rather not be driving around while you're up north, there are also private airport shuttle transfers available.
