What is Hobart famous for?
In short, it’s famous for its history. European settlement first began with a military camp in 1803 at Risdon Cove. In 1804, the military, settlers and convicts that formed the camp at Risdon Cove were moved to a superior location at the present site of Hobart at Sullivans Cove. The city was named after Lord Hobart, the British secretary of state for war and the colonies.
The area's indigenous natives were members of the semi-nomadic Mouheneener tribe.Violence and conflict with the aforementioned European settlers, and the diseases carried by them, dramatically decreased the aboriginal population, which was quickly substituted by the convict population.
Hobart is also considered the mecca for tourism in the state of Tasmania, and is brimming with well-preserved and beautiful architecture.
