How to watch 2024 Australian Open tennis live and free
You don't have to pay a cent to catch the biggest tennis tournament in Australia.
Some of the biggest tennis players in the world are heading Down Under for the first grand slam of the year, the Australian Open.
Local tennis fans will be in heaven as not only can you watch every match, but you can do so for free.
When does the Australian Open start?
The Australian Open starts on 14 January 2024, running through until the men's final on Sunday 28 January.
How to watch or livestream the Australian Open 2024
There are 2 ways to watch the 2024 Australian Open tennis.
The cheapest way to watch the Australian Open tennis in 2024 is to watch via the 9 Network.
It will screen matches on broadcast TV for free, plus you can stream every match on 9Now.
You are also able to watch every match of the Australian Open tennis 2024 via paid streaming service Stan Sport.
The main appeal of Stan Sport is being able to watch matches ad-free, plus the better resolution with some matches in 4K. So you'd have to decide if you feel it's worth paying to have those options.
Which channel is the Australian Open on?
To watch on free-to-air TV, the 9 Network will be broadcasting Australian Open matches on both the main Channel 9 and 9Gem channels.
It's worth noting that only having 2 channels available to broadcast the tennis means not every Australian Open match will be shown on traditional broadcast TV, but usually the biggest match-ups will feature on there. This should suit most tennis fans.
Live stream the Australian Open free on 9Now
9Now will allow you to watch every Australian Open match in HD, live and on demand.
You need to sign up to 9Now in order to stream the Australian Open tennis, but that process is free.
The only problem with 9Now is that it isn't a specialist sports broadcaster, plus it also features ads. So unlike say Kayo, which has special features like SplitView allowing you to watch 4 sports at once, with 9Now you'll be limited to a single match at a time. However, 9Now does feature a start-over button, which allows you to watch from the start of each session if you miss the beginning.
Stream the Australian Open on Stan Sport
If you want to stream the Australian Open without ads, you'll need Stan Sport.
Stan Sport will also have access to every single match at the Australian Open live, but they will be ad-free.
Matches on centre court will be shown in 4K.
Stan Sport will also have mini matches (shortened replays) and highlights for every match.
A subscription to Stan Sport costs $15 a month. But you also need to be a regular Stan subscriber as well. Subscriptions to Stan cost between $10 and $21 a month.
If you want the cheapest option to subscribe to Stan Sport, you'd need to take the Basic Stan package before adding Stan Sport. This would mean you'd pay $25 a month. This is all you'd need to spend if you just wanted to watch the Australian Open tennis, as the tournament only goes for 2 weeks. But if you wanted to stick around, Stan Sport also has plenty of rugby union and the UEFA Champions League.
Stan Sport has no free trial, meaning you'd be paying straight away when you subscribe. The main Stan platform has a 30-day free trial for new users.
