Hearthstone Championship Tour: World Championship to distribute exclusive fan content
The Hearthstone Championship Tour begins this month.
The stage is all set for the Hearthstone Championship Tour (HCT) World Championship to kick off at 3:30 am AEDT or 5:30 am NZDT on Friday 19 January. Sixteen of the world’s best Hearthstone players have arrived in Amsterdam to face off in the four-day event to fight for a share of the US$1 million prize pool and the title of the 2017 World Champion.
These contenders have battled across the 2017 Winter, Spring and Summer championship tournaments, all except for four who managed to earn the Last Call spot to qualify for the World Championship. To earn the Last Call the contender must have the most competitive points in their region, and as such is invited to compete on a higher level.
The HCT World Championship will start with a group stage before moving onto a playoff bracket. The seeding will be determined by placement from the four HTC World Championship qualifying events; the Spring, Summer and Winter Championships from last year, along with the scores of those with the Last Call invitations.
During the tournament, each match will be the best-of-five in Conquest. Players will each have one ban to use before the match. Each player will be bringing four decks each, with the opposing player allowed to ban one deck and compete with the remaining three. In the group stage, the tournament will switch to a dual tournament, with two competitors advancing from each group into the playoffs. The playoffs will be single elimination until only two are left, leaving the grand final.
To celebrate the World Championship, Blizzard is giving fans the chance to earn up to three free card packs by logging into Hearthstone during the tournament. These packs will be distributed on different days, look below for the schedule to log in.
Between Thursday 18 and Friday 19 January, you can log in for a chance to earn the Journey to Un’Goro Card Pack. This unlocks the achievement "The Championship Begins!".
On Saturday the 20 January fans will have the chance to win the Knights of the Frozen Throne Card Pack. This unlocks the achievement "The Competition Continues". This is followed by the final chance on Sunday the 21st, with the Kobolds and Catacombs Card Pack, unlocking "The Finale!" achievement.
