Always feel like you're running out of time to use your health insurance extras? Well no more!

Sponsored by ahm. This year, ahm is rolling over most remaining extras annual limits from the 2023/2024 financial year. New and existing members are eligible, provided you have unused extras on June 30, 2024 and you remain on the same extras product after this date. Terms and conditions and some exclusions apply, so make sure you visit the ahm website to find out more.

Missing out on your health insurance extras is a pain. Whether you didn't specifically need it, life got in the way, or you simply forgot about it, it can make you feel like you've wasted your premiums.

But this year, you don't need to feel like you're missing out. That's because ahm is allowing most unused extras to be rolled over, for a whole extra financial year!

👋 Hey there! We've partnered with ahm for this article, so we'll be using some examples of its products throughout. However, you should always do your own research and obtain your own advice about what product is right for you. Make sure that you read the relevant product guides before signing up for any private health insurance product.

1. Customer eligibility

The good news is that both new and existing customers can benefit from this extras rollover.

You just need to hold an ahm extras product on 30 June 2024 and have eligible unclaimed extras annual limits from the 2023/2024 financial year.

Then you need to maintain this policy into the new financial year (2024/25), too. If you switch to a different policy, you will lose your rolled over annual limit. Just make sure you read the fine print on the ahm website, too.

ahm offers a number of benefits to members.

On some ahm covers, there are no waiting periods for certain services like optical, general dental and physio (lifestyle, family, super, value extras cover only).

ahm also allows for flexible annual limits on some policies, so you can better tailor how you use your cover to suit your specific needs.

ahm are also considered a highly affordable health insurance provider, with extras cover starting from $12.95/month*. You can read a review of ahm right here on Finder to find out more.

2. Included extras

Most ahm extras services are included in the annual limit rollover across extras only, packages and hospital and extras combinations. It doesn't matter how many members you have on your policy, annual limit left or the state you live in.

It's also an automatic process. There's no need to fill out a form or manually register interest – ahm will simply roll eligible extras annual limits over on your behalf.

There are a few exclusions. You can see the complete details on the ahm website, but some include:

  • Optical where it has a separate annual limit
  • Pre and post-natal services
  • Certain hearing aids
  • The number of services allowed per financial year

If you're unsure about your policy, you can also contact ahm's customer support team for more information.

3. How you can use this rollover

One of the key ways the annual limit rollover can be used is to tailor your treatments for the following financial year.

Everyone's healthcare needs are different. So when you combine this year's annual limit rollover with ahm's approach to flexible limits, it's an opportunity to ensure you're properly looked after in the next financial year.

For example, you might need additional dental work done to clear up nagging problems.

Leveraging the extras annual limit rollover can potentially enable you to reduce your out-of-pockets quite a bit next time you need health care.

4. Rethink your extras into the future

As we age and life circumstances change, it's important to have cover that matches those needs.

Selecting health insurance extras shouldn't just be about your current needs.

It should be about your future plans, too. Investigating your family's medical history can also potentially provide some insights into your extras selection, too.

Likewise, if you're already with a specific insurer, it can be an opportunity to rethink the type of cover you need moving forward.

It's also worth looking at an insurer's member benefits, too. For example, ahm offers a range of perks to members, including discounted gym memberships (to help keep you in shape) and discounts across a range of other ahm insurance products, like travel, car and home.

Having access to the right health insurance and supporting tools can help you stay healthy well into the future.
