What is the GTX 1080 Ti?
The GTX 1080 Ti is the most powerful graphics card in Nvidia's GTX 10 line-up. As of mid-2018, no other consumer graphics card can match it in terms of raw performance, making it the go-to choice for those wanting the best gaming experience money can buy.
Built upon the foundations of the original GTX 1080, the GTX 1080 Ti distinguishes itself from its forebear by packing 11GB of GDDR5X RAM instead of just 8GB. Not only that, it boasts a wider 352-bit memory bus as well, enabling a memory speed of 11Gbps and a total memory bandwidth of 484Gbps.
The only apparent concession is in the GPU clock speed, where the GTX 1080 Ti sports a base speed of 1480MHz and a boost speed of 1582MHz. On paper, it would seem the stock GTX 1080 has the advantage thanks to its 1607MHz/1733MHz clock speeds, but that doesn’t pan out in practice. Thanks to Nvidia's dynamic GPU Boost 3.0 technology, the GTX 1080 Ti regularly overclocks itself to speeds in excess of 1800MHz, giving it the power to trump its cheaper sibling.
Specs aside, the GTX 1080 Ti looks exactly the same as the GTX 1080. It most commonly spans the width of two PCI slots, meaning you'll need a fair bit of free space in your PC to fit it in. If you don't have the room for a dual-slot card, you can find a few single-slot variants that make use of liquid cooling instead of traditional fans, but they tend to cost significantly more than the standard GTX 1080 Ti.
Other than a spare PCIe 3.0 slot on the motherboard, a standard GTX 1080 Ti requires a 600W power supply and both an 8-pin and 6-pin connector to draw power from. Custom variants with features like liquid cooling and overclocked GPUs may require even more power, so be sure to do your research to avoid disappointment.

Nvidia built the GTX 1080 Ti on the same Pascal GPU architecture as the rest of the cards in the GTX 10 series. As such, the GTX 1080 Ti packs plenty of additional features, including:

Where the GTX 1080 Ti really comes into its own is in 4K. It is currently the only consumer-grade graphics card capable of consistently hitting 60fps at 4K with all the graphics settings cranked to the maximum. In comparison, the GTX 1080 tends to top out at around 40-45fps at best, making the GTX 1080 Ti a full 50% more powerful in many cases.
With so much grunt under the hood, most gamers would be hard-pressed to push the GTX 1080 Ti to its limits even when playing the latest, most visually spectacular games. If you can afford it, you simply won't find a more capable graphics card in the current market.
