First hands-on with Gran Turismo Sport at GT Academy Australia

Brodie Fogg 5 August 2016 NEWS

PlayStation and Nissan have announced the Australian dates and locations for GT Academy Australia.

Racing fans are once again getting their chance to duke it out in the latest Gran Turismo for a spot competing at the GT Academy 2016 Australian National Final.

GT Academy is the virtual-to-reality competition where Gran Turismo players race head-to-head for the opportunity to become a real-life race car driver. Players who make it through the virtual qualifying events go on to compete in a series of events (virtual and non-virtual) for the ultimate prize, a spot on the Nissan racing team, training and licensing to race in international events.

Not only is this a golden opportunity for rev-heads, but also the first chance the public will have to get their hands on a pre-release build of GT Sport which is due out 16 November 2016.

The live GT Academy events will take place at the following locations:

  • Federation Square in Melbourne (14th August)
  • The Red Roster SuperSprint at Sydney Motorsport Park (26th – 28th August)
  • Warners Brothers Movie World on the Gold Coast (7th – 9th September)

Last year's winner, Matt Simmons said of the experience:

"It’s been an amazing journey from delivering parcels for Australia Post and playing Gran Turismo in my lounge room to now travelling the globe and racing a Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 in some of the biggest sports car races in the world".

We'll be keeping track of the events as they occur, but for those participating, godspeed.

GT Sport is available for preorder at $83.99
