With a newly designed processor and enhanced video stabilisation, the HERO6 is GoPro's most powerful camera yet.

GoPro HERO6 Black is a wearable and mountable digital camera manufactured by the popular camera company GoPro. Like its predecessors, HERO6 is built for taking photos and videos in extreme conditions, with a rugged design, resistance to harsh weather and support for voice commands so you don't miss out on the perfect shot just because your hands are full.

How is the GoPro HERO6 different from the HERO5?

The HERO6 boasts several improvements over the HERO5 thanks to its enhanced processor, the custom-designed GP1. This new processor delivers a hefty performance boost over its predecessor, enabling double the frame rate at both 4K and 1080p resolutions as well as improved image quality, a greater dynamic range and better performance in low-light environments.

The GP1 also enhances HERO6's image stabilisation for clearer pictures and video, plus the added smarts allows HERO6 to more accurately analyse the footage you take and convert it into higher-quality automated QuikStories.

Alongside the benefits of the GP1, the HERO6 features a new digital zoom function you can activate by tapping its touch screen.

What are the key features of the GoPro HERO6?

Aided by its new GP1 processor, the GoPro HERO6 can record 4K video at 60fps or 1080p video at an impressive 240fps. It also supports taking 12MP photos in high-quality, uncompressed RAW format as well as capturing HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.

The network performance of HERO6 is also enhanced over its predecessor, with support for 5GHz Wi-Fi, delivering speeds up to three times faster than HERO5 when transferring files from HERO6 to your phone.

Image stabilisation

Thanks to the greater power of its GP1 processor, the HERO6 boasts the most advanced image stabilisation of GoPro's entire HERO line, ensuring that freehand and in-motion videos come out clearer than ever before.

Like the HERO5, the HERO6 is waterproof to depths of up to 10m, making it a capable underwater camera for scuba diving, surfing and other sea-faring activities.

Voice control

The HERO6 supports 13 simple voice commands in ten different languages for when you don't have the time or the means to use the regular buttons. Supported commands include the following:

  • GoPro Start Recording
  • GoPro Stop Recording
  • GoPro Turn Off
  • GoPro Turn On
  • GoPro Video Mode
  • GoPro Photo Mode
  • GoPro Take a Photo
  • GoPro Burst Mode
  • GoPro Shoot Burst
  • GoPro Time Lapse Mode
  • GoPro Start Time Lapse
  • GoPro Stop Time Lapse
  • GoPro Highlight

Currently, supported languages for voice commands are English, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Korean, Russian, Italian and Portuguese.

GoPro's QuikStories feature automatically combines your photos and footage into a highlight reel ready for sharing on social media. After connecting your phone to your HERO6 through the GoPro mobile app, QuikStories scans for videos and photos from the last 72 hours and splices those that are within two hours of each other together replete with music and flashy effects. Once it's finished, the resulting video clip can be uploaded to services like Instagram and Facebook or shared through an email or a text message.

What accessories are available for the GoPro HERO6?

The GoPro HERO6 supports a wide range of accessories, including camera mounts, external remotes and attachable floatation devices. All mounts for existing GoPro cameras are fully compatible with HERO6, and because the HERO6 is the same size as the HERO5, all housings, screen protectors and grips for the HERO5 can be used with the HERO6 too.
