What to know before you go
Is Gold Coast a city?
It certainly is. The City of Gold Coast is the local government area that surrounds the beautiful Gold Coast of Queensland. It’s a buzzing city filled with award-winning restaurants, funky festivals and golden sandy beaches.
Where is Gold Coast Airport?
Gold Coast Airport is located on Eastern Avenue in Bilinga. It’s situated about 25km south of the popular tourist spots of Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, and only five minutes outside Coolangatta.
Is Gold Coast Airport open 24 hours?
No. Gold Coast Airport is open daily from 4:30am until 11:00pm. Sleeping is not permitted inside the terminal during its shut-down hours. If you’re planning an overnight layover, you’ll need to check out the airport hotels.

Where is Gold Coast Hospital?
Gold Coast University Hospital is located on the corner of Parklands Drive and Olsen Avenue in Southport, and can be reached easily via G:Link. It provides public health support for Gold Coast and the wider community. Its seven main buildings combined total approximately 170,000 square metres of floor space.
Getting around and things to do
Does Gold Coast have Uber?
Uber is widely available throughout the Gold Coast. Your Uber options include UberX, UberXL, UberSELECT and UberASSIST. Prices start at $2 for a base fare and an additional $1 per kilometre thereafter. The minimum fare for an Uber on the Gold Coast is $8.
When do Gold Coast trams start?
G:Link, or Gold Coast Light Rail, forms part of the TransLink’s south east Queensland public transportation system. Services run from 5am through to 11:30pm Monday to Friday, and 24 hours during the weekend. Service frequencies vary between 7.5 minutes and 30 minutes depending on the time of day.
The Line commences at Broadbeach South and terminates at Gold Coast University Hospital with a total of 16 stops including Florida Gardens, Surfers Paradise and Broadwater Parklands.
Where is Gold Coast Show?
The Gold Coast Show is one of the largest community events in Queensland. It’s a great family fun day that boasts displays of cultural creativity, exhibitions of art and science, and even funfair delights such as carnival games and a ferris wheel. 2017 sees the celebrations in its 111th year. The Gold Coast Show is hosted at Gold Coast Turf Club, Racecourse Drive, Bundall.
Where is Gold Coast Turf Club?
Gold Coast Turf Club is based in Surfers Paradise and is home to an Australian horse racing course as well as the Gold Coast Show and one of Australia’s richest race days, Magic Millions. It’s situated on Racecourse Drive, Bundall.
Which Gold Coast theme park is best for toddlers?
The consensus where toddlers are concerned seems to be Seaworld. It encompasses animal shows with tiered seating that is perfect for giving kids and parents alike uninterrupted view of the action, as well as a wet-play area and some delightful rides that are particularly little-one friendly.
Is the Gold Coast near the Whitsundays or the Great Barrier Reef?
No, the Gold Coast is at the southern end of Queensland while the Whitsundays sit on the coast in the middle/north of the state about 1,000km north. The Great Barrier Reef's southernmost point is at Lady Elliot Island, about 440km north of the Gold Coast.
When is the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games?
The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games of 2018 will commence on Wednesday 4 April and end on Sunday 15 April. The games are hosted throughout Queensland across 17 unbelievable venues including Gold Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville.
