Luckily, getting around the area isn't all that hard. From tram lines to affordable car hire, you’ll love your vacation with these stress-free options to get you around the coast.

Gold Coast public transport

Types of transport. TransLink services the Gold Coast with trains, trams and buses. Areas that are included are Helensvale, Nerang, Robina, Varsity Lakes, Ormeau and Coomera.

Paying for transport. You need to use the electronic go card to travel on TransLink transport. Simply tap on and off and the card will automatically deduct the correct amount. You can purchase go cards at select local retailers, Queensland Rail station ticket offices or fare machines at bus stations. The minimum cost is $10. This price includes $5 for the card, which you get back when you return the card, and $5 of travel credit. You can also pay cash for transport.

Best apps for getting around. MyTransLink app can plan your journey, give you real-time information for when transport is departing from your stop, and will find the closest stops to you. The trip announcer feature allows you to follow your journey while on-board with an audio or visual option to alert you when to get off.

Taxis and Uber

Taxi. You can get a taxi from a designated taxi rank, hail one from the street or book one in advance. You cannot pre-book taxis from the airport, but you can find them at the front of the terminal.

Uber. Uber is available from Gold Coast Airport and within the city. From the airport to the CBD, fares are $26-$54.

Gold Coast car hire deals

Gold Coast airport is about a 45-minute drive from the centre of town. You can pre-book an airport transfer with Jayride from Gold Coast airport up to your accommodation in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, or wherever else you're staying for a smooth door-to-door service that will cost less than a taxi.
