Alright, I'm going to be honest. When I first saw this mask, I thought it was a bit of a fad. As in, "Oh yay, this mask has glitter in it. I need it"... and still, I totally wanted it. When I saw that the Glamglow GRAVITYMUD #Glittermask is dropping to MECCA on the 1st of May, I really needed to give it a go myself. This mask is apparently going to lift, tighten and tone my skin, so let's see if that is really the case.
When it comes to face masks, I'm die-hard obsessed. I love every single thing about them and I won't apologise for the copious amounts that sit in my drawers at home. The Sand and Sky mask and Manuka Doctor mask have to be my favourites. Being a bit of a cake face (and proud of it), masks are a great way to really help my skin after it experiences the makeup trauma that I put it through.
I will admit, one thing about skincare and face masks that I can't stand, is the whole process of washing them off. It always ends up looking like my sink and I were finalists in The Hunger Games and I lost.
However, when I read that this face mask had glitter in it AND was a peel-off? Well, that thing went straight into my basket. Plus, heading into winter, it's super important to get a winter skin care routine down.
Every mask is a little bit different in terms of when you should apply it. I removed my makeup, cleansed my skin and then began with the application process.
The first thing I noticed was the cooling sensation I got from the mask. Don't get me wrong, it didn't feel like I just stuck my face in a bucket of ice, but rather it was a refreshing feeling. That's something I can totally get around.
The mask comes with a mini-paddle brush for you to apply the mask that spreads it fairly evenly. This mask's consistency is not too thick and not too runny. Some may say that it's juuuust right, as it's incredibly easy to spread over your face without it sticking to some areas more than others, or dripping off.
When looking at this mask, I will admit I questioned whether or not the glitter was going to be an issue. Those tiny silver stars are cute but I really didn't want to end up looking like I had tiny paper cuts all over my face.
The verdict? Absolutely safe. I didn't feel a thing from the little flecks that make this mask oh-so-adorable. The glitter used is cosmetics-grade glitter that won't cause damage to your face.
Being a peel-off mask, you want to avoid your eyebrows (seriously), under eyes and hairline because removing it will just not be a fun situation.
Once it was applied, I was pretty impressed with how quickly this mask dried. The instructions say to wait 20-30 minutes but I will admit, it was dry before then. However, this doesn't mean the mask process is done by this point in time, plus I was having way too much fun sending people pictures of my gorgeous glittery face.
When the mask is drying, you definitely get a tight feeling going on. It's not painful but you do start talking a bit like a robot so that you don't rip the mask. To me, this shows me that the mask is doing its job of lifting and tightening my skin.
I feel like everyone is a bit scared of peel-off masks after those terrifying blackhead mask videos on social media. Let me start by saying this mask does not hurt at all. Sure, if you get it in your eyebrows or hair, that's not going to be the most comfortable feeling in the entire world, but trust me when I say the removal process is a breeze.
By picking up the corner of the mask at the bottom of my jaw, I was able to lift the entire mask easily in one go. With peel-off mask, there is always going to be a little bit of residue and that's totally normal. I did have a small amount of residue but this was easy to remove.
I definitely felt an immediate difference in my skin, especially the texture of it. It felt incredibly plump and hydrated. I started using it weekly and I've definitely seen a difference in my skin and fewer pimples popping up. The mask's ingredients, like TEAOXI® Complex of Liquorice and Marshmallow Leaf, helped make my skin feel firmer and look more defined after use.
Now, what you may be thinking is how are those little flecks of glitter going to affect the environment? This is one of the main reasons the mask is a peel-off. Not only is it super convenient but it's good for the environment.
The mask isn't meant to be washed off or to go down the sink. Once it's peeled off put it in the bin in order to keep the oceans clean and glitter-free.
This mask retails for $101, so it's fair to say that it isn't cheap. However, a little bit goes a very long way, so this mask is going to last you a long time. Plus, I genuinely believe the mask's effects is worth the monetary splurge.
