Public and private transport options in Brisbane and the best tools to help you get from place to place
As the capital city of Queensland, there are plenty of places to visit and things to do in Brisbane. Luckily, navigating your way around is simple with the right know-how.
Below we’ve outlined your transport options as well as the best apps to download before you arrive so you’ll know exactly how to get from attraction to attraction quickly, cheaply and easily.
Brisbane public transport
Types of transport: Buses, trams, trains and ferries all service Brisbane CBD. For visitors, there is a free city loop bus service that departs every 15 minutes between 7:00am and 6:00pm from the red bus stops.
Paying for transport: The go card is TransLink's electronic ticket. It lets you ride all its services without having to purchase individual tickets by pre-loading it with funds. The go card can be used on public transport throughout Brisbane and wider Queensland. It can also be used on Brisbane's Airtrain. Cards can be purchased and topped up online or at local retailers.
Best apps for getting around: The MyTransApp is the official app for Brisbane TransLink services. Its features include a journey planner, trip announcer which allows you to see upcoming stops and your remaining journey time, stop timetable and stop finder.
Taxis and Uber
Taxi: Taxis are available throughout Brisbane and can be pre-booked or hailed on the street.
Uber: On-demand ride service Uber is available throughout Brisbane. uberX, uberASSIST and uberSELECT vehicles operate out of Brisbane Airport.
Brisbane car hire rental companies
Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz are all located in the arrivals hall of the terminal. It's recommended that you pre-book your car prior to arrival to ensure your rate and car preference. Not sure which to go with? Drive Now is a car hire comparison service that can help you find the best deal and book your vehicle easily online.
If you’d prefer to just organise a shuttle between the airport and your accommodation, you can always pre-book a service with a company like Viator and Jayride, which offers both private and shared rides.
