Get six months of Xbox Live Gold for the price of three

Save $30 on one of the best deals in video games.

For all the hubbub that surrounded the prospect of paying to play games online back on the original Xbox, Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold service has built itself into one of the best deals you'll find anywhere in video games. Between the monthly Games With Gold free games, the many excellent free-to-play games and the regular discounts via Deals With Gold, the subscription service more than justifies its relatively low cost.

Of course, there's always room for a better deal, and Microsoft has rolled out the big guns with its latest promotional offer. Right now, if you purchase a 3-month subscription to Xbox Live from Microsoft Store, you'll receive an extra 3 months completely free. At the regular price of $29.95 for three months, that works out at just $5 a month, which is a ridiculously good deal based solely on the free games you'll score through Games With Gold.

This month, for instance, Xbox One owners with an Xbox Live Gold subscription received the British-themed survival game Zombi and the action RPG The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III, along with the Xbox 360 games Army of Two and Tomb Raider Underworld. Those titles alone are well worth the cost of entry, especially in light of this ripper deal.

Once you've purchased a three-month Xbox Live subscription, Microsoft will email you a digital code for the extra three months sometime before 15 March this year. You can only take advantage of this offer once per account, so you unfortunately can't stack up 10 years' worth of free subscription time.
