Spain is one of Europe's must-sees, home to great food, great company and unbeatable nightlife.

It's not hard to have the trip of a lifetime in Spain, but getting there cheaply from Australia can be trickier. Air China has the answer. This May and June, the global carrier is running flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Madrid, keeping costs down by going through Beijing.

Adding a few hours to your trip, and saving hundreds of dollars, is time well spent.

The last time we saw flights this low was a few weeks ago, when Air China had fares to Barcelona and Madrid from $888. This deal saves you even more. If you'd rather visit Barcelona, that offer still stands.

For this sale, routes are Melbourne to Madrid from $846 return and Sydney to Madrid from $858 return.

Sample dates for both fares include: 12-26 May, 19-26 May, 26 May to 9 June and 2-16 June.

These fares are not part of any particular promotion and are available until sold out.

We found these flights deals through Secret Flying. They can also be booked via I Want That Flight.

Want to fly out earlier?

STA Travel has flights to Madrid on China Eastern from $869 departing Melbourne or $885 from Sydney. Thesem are for travel between 1 March and 22 June and can be booked online. STA's sale ends 31 March.

Do Spain right

With this deal running all through May and June, you can take the time to get the most out of Spain and even the rest of Europe. You can get cheap Europe Rail passes to hit countries like France, Italy and Germany too and siesta your way through the trips, assuming you aren't too enchanted by Spain's vineyards and Mediterranean countryside, before hopping out refreshed at the next country over.

There's a reason Spain is the destination of choice for travellers from the rest of the continent, especially when the weather turns warmer in May and June. Here, the expansive coastline turns into one of the best climates in the world, bringing a Mediterranean atmosphere to the cities and countryside. There's a lot to do, with watersports, vineyard tours and the nightlife proving to be ever-popular.

The choice is entirely yours, but the only thing that's not optional is the world famous paella, which everyone needs to sample at least once before leaving.

Want to make it happen? Get cheap flights to Madrid while the offer, and the weather, lasts.
