GEIST is the native cryptocurrency of Geist Finance; a transparency-driven, non-custodial, decentralised liquidity market protocol. Launched in October 2021, the protocol has been designed using the open-source code behind the popular Ethereum-based market protocol, Aave. As a result, the platform allows users to borrow and lend cryptocurrency assets without the need to use an intermediary such as a bank or financial institution.
According to the official project website, Geist Finance was developed on top of the Fantom blockchain. Geist Finance users can borrow and lend a range of cryptocurrencies including Ethereum, Bitcoin and Fantom as well as various stablecoins. In addition to borrowing and lending, thanks to a partnership with SpookySwap, Geist Finance also allows users to earn from liquidity pools and yield farm. The native token, GEIST, is critical to the inner workings of the Geist Finance ecosystem. Unlike other DeFi protocols, GEIST was not designed for governance or utility. Instead, GEIST was designed as a revenue-sharing token - 50% of all platform fees going directly to those staking GEIST within the protocol. As a result, GEIST is then used as an incentive for both borrowers and lenders - with borrowers receiving twice as many GEIST due to generating revenue for the protocol.
