It's now been over 10 years since we've taken flight with Fox, Falco and the rest of the crew on our home consoles. In 2016 players will enter the Arwing cockpit once more in Star Fox Zero.
For many, Star Fox 64 was the go-to game for their dogfighting, aerial combat fix. Its smooth controls, quasi-on-rails progression and hidden pathways engaged players, while the furry characters and iconic dialogue kept us coming back for more. It's been far too long since we've travelled the Lylat system with the Star Fox crew (the last being 2011's remake of Star Fox 64 on Nintendo 3DS), but this year Fox McCloud and friends will be defending the galaxy from the Star Wold team once again, this time with a few new tricks up their sleeves.
Producer, Shigeru Miyamoto, has stated that Star Fox Zero will be episodic, drawing inspiration from the Thunderbirds TV series (which explains that puppet themed reveal).
Miyamoto, has also confirmed that the Fox and Falco Super Smash Bros. amiibos will be compatible with Star Fox Zero.
Star Fox Zero will take players to familiar locales and a few new areas and introduce new vehicles and transformations to aid in Fox's adventure.
- New locations to explore
In addition to returning areas Corneria, Zoness, Titania and Fortuna, Star Fox Zero will introduce at least two never-seen-before locations, Area 3 and Sector Alpha.
- All new vehicles and transformations:
Not only will Star Fox Zero introduce a brand new vehicle, the drone-like Gyrowing, but it will also introduce transformations for classic vehicles, like the Arwing and Landmaster.
With the press of a button, the Arwing will transform into a bipedal Walker and the Landmaster into an aerial tank, the Gravmaster.
- amiibo compatibility:
Miyamoto has confirmed that both the Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi amiibos from the Super Smash Bros. series will be compatible with Star Fox Zero. The full extent of their functionality is not yet known. However, Miyamoto has suggested that each amiibo could unlock things like skins for customising vehicles.
We'll update the list below as further details around amiibo compatibility surface.
