All the news and announcements from Cologne in one place.

Every year, video game publishers and gamers from across the globe descend on Cologne, Germany for Europe's largest gaming trade show, Gamescom. Gamescom has been running since 2009 and in that time has become the world's second-largest gaming event (only second to Asia Game Show). Gamescom hosts upwards of 6,000 gaming journalists and over 700 exhibitors at the Koelnmesse exhibition centre year in and year out.

Despite its huge scale, Gamescom tends to have fewer AAA announcements than E3, instead offering a closer look at the finer details of upcoming games. With that said, many exhibitors like THQ, Ubisoft and Microsoft have promised a huge presence at this Gamescom 2017.

Here's everything you need to know about the event.

The latest news from Gamescom 2017

When is Gamescom?

Gamescom kicks off 22 August and runs until 26 August 2017. In Germany, the proceedings will start at 10:00am Wednesday 23 August. For Australians, that's 6:00pm on the same day, so expect a few late ones if you're planning to live stream the event.

Here's a full list of event times converted for Australian Eastern Standard time:

  • Day 1: 6:00pm Wednesday, 23 August to 4:00am Thursday, 24 August
  • Day 2: 6:00pm Thursday, 24 August to 4:00am Friday, 25 August
  • Day 3: 5:00pm Friday, 25 August to 4:00am Saturday. 26 August
  • Day 4: 5:00pm Saturday, 26 August to 4:00am Sunday, 27 August

Where can you watch Gamescom live streams?

While attending the event and experiencing it firsthand is the dream, we don't all have the time and money to hop over to Germany for the week. Thankfully, the most important announcements out of this year's Gamescom will be live streamed from the event so you can catch all the news from the comfort of your couch.

Here's the short list of not-to-be-missed Gamescom live streams:

  • Xbox @ Gamescom live: 5:00am Monday, 21 August on Xbox's Mixer channel
  • EA Live Show: 2:30am Tuesday, 22 August on EA's website
  • Nintendo Super Mario Odyssey: 11:00pm Wednesday, 23 August on Nintendo's YouTube channel
  • Nintendo Metroid Samus Returns: 8:00pm Thursday, 24 August on Nintendo's YouTube channel
  • Blizzard reveal ceremony: 2:00am Thursday, 24 August on Blizzard's Gamescom website
