Fire Emblem's follow-up to the critically-acclaimed Awakening is just around the corner for Western audiences. Here's everything you need to know about the turn-based strategy and how to use your amiibo when it releases.
Fire Emblem: Fates is the upcoming entry to the hugely popular Fire Emblem: Franchise. Fates is made of two separate video games, Fire Emblem: Conquest and Fire Emblem: Birthright. While both games share the same universe and core story, they feature different gameplay elements, supporting characters and branching storylines.
Birthright and Conquest are set in the territories of the Hoshido Kingdom and the Nohr Kingdom, respectively. Both games feature the same protagonist, Corrin, a human avatar for a dragon deity who is forced to choose a side between the warring factions at the beginning of each title.
This choice sets off a chain of events unique to each game. Across the two games, the player will make unique allies, travel to different regions and experience different gameplay elements.
When the localised version Fates launches in early 2016, players who own Fire Emblem amiibos from the Super Smash Bros. series will be able to unlock exclusive in-game content. See below for more information on amiibo functionality in Fire Emblem Fates.
- Meet old friends in My Castle
Tap in your Marth, Robin, Lucina and Ike and they will appear in your "My Castle" (a customisable base of operation). Once transferred to fates, players can interact with these classic heroes where they will regale about their time competing in a familiar fighting tournament.
- Get freebies from familiar faces
The first two times you scan your Fire Emblem amiibo, the corresponding character will present you with a gift inside your My Castle.
- Duel with iconic Fire Emblem characters
The third time you scan your Fire Emblem amiibo, you will get the chance to challenge each character to a battle. If you're good enough, these heroes may even consider joining your army at the end of the battle.
