From the golden beaches, high-rise accommodation, theme parks packed with thrilling rides, serene natural landscape and blue skies all year round, you really can see and experience it all in Queensland. Here's everything you need to know about flying to Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Cairns and Townsville.
The further north you go up the coast of Queensland, the more you will pay for flights. From destinations around Australia, you can expect to pay between $200 and $600 for domestic flights to Queensland depending on the time of year you're travelling. Jetstar and Tigerair hold frequent flight sales, with deals to the Gold Coast and Brisbane. In the past, we have seen one-way fares to the Gold Coast for $39.95 with Tigerair.
The cheapest time to fly to Queensland is in February and May. If you want to avoid the crowds that come along with travelling during peak season and extreme hot weather, you're in luck with these months being the cheapest to travel during. In February, you'll see blue skies and weather that is ideal for visiting theme parks, hiking and water activities. In most Australian states, the school holidays are over and there aren't as many people flocking to the beach and popular attractions around the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
In May, you'll experience milder weather, but as a result, fewer people will be around. Who doesn't love being at the front of the line at theme parks? If you're heading to the north of Queensland, May provides great weather for land and sea adventures, but you may see an inflation in accommodation and transport hire. Skyscanner data shows that flying to Townsville from Melbourne is cheapest in November, so if you love a buzzing atmosphere, warm nights and the sun glistening over the ocean, book your flights for the second last month of the year.
If you know the exact dates you want to travel, it is best to book your flights four to seven weeks in advance. Booking last-minute flights to Queensland is not recommended as there tends to be a significant spike in price.

When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labelling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
