Prices from $105 each way. Can you guess who has the cheaper fare?

Sorry, this sale is no longer running. Check our list of current flight sales to find a bargain!

Seems the place to be this summer is Hamilton Island with both Virgin Australia and Qantas dropping almost like-for-like sales to the Queensland island.

The lowest price advertised comes from Virgin Australia, with $105 fares out of Brisbane when booked through Flight Centre. In response, Qantas also has tickets from Brisbane though they come up at $20 more starting at $125 each way.

Let's break this down further:

Who has the better range of travel dates?

Fares for both airlines are one-way and for a wide range of very similar dates between 16 January and 27 June 2018, calling this one a tie.

Across both, flight dates differ slightly depending on your route, and peak holidays are generally excluded. Check the table below for which airline has the best dates out of your city.

Who has the cheaper fare?

Virgin Australia wins this round, undercutting Qantas on the same routes by up to $20 per leg. For example, from Melbourne, it has flights from $149 each way while Qantas is charging $169.

Who has the wider range of destinations?

To its favour, Qantas offers flights out of Newcastle in this sale where Virgin Australia does not.

Otherwise, both offer flights from Australia's main hubs of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra.

The verdict?

Depending on where your loyalty lies, as well as your frequent flyer points, you could swing either way in these sales, but if you're after the absolute best price Virgin Australia has the upper hand.

See our table below for a full comparison of dates and prices or head to Flight Centre now to browse more options and book.

Both sales end midnight 6 November.
