First budget flights between Perth and Brisbane

Posted: 1 June 2017 11:13 am

Tigerair takes on one of Australia's longest domestic routes... and fares are going for $115 each way.

Direct services between Perth and Brisbane on Tigerair commence today, making it the only low cost carrier to undertake this long domestic route.

Not one to launch a flight without a sale, Tigerair is celebrating the milestone with $115 fares each way on Brisbane-Perth flights, on sale until midnight 2 June 2017.

These can be booked direct through Tigerair or via booking agents, including Flight Centre.

When this sale ends, fares between Perth and Brisbane will be regularly priced at $189 - or significantly cheaper during flight sales.

The flights, which take almost four and a half hours each way, will operate year-round with four return services offered weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing Brisbane airport at 7am and arriving in Perth at 10:45pm.

During peak periods, particularly over the school holiday and Christmas, Tigerair will increase flights to six return services to meet demand.

It's hoped the flights will draw tourism to Perth from overseas visitors. Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO Julieanne Alroe said; "With more and more international travellers choosing Brisbane as their preferred gateway into Australia, connectivity provided by domestic airlines such as Tigerair is an attractive advantage of arriving into BNE."

"It is also important for Brisbane Airport’s growth that we have the right balance of full service network carriers and low cost operators, providing travellers with an abundance of choice - be it value for money or more premium options.

"Low cost carriers, such as Tigerair are critical catalysts for travel and tourism growth across the nation and every new service Tigerair commits is a win for both travellers and businesses alike."

Tigerair is obviously honing in on the international market flying into Brisbane with this venture becoming its third new route to the Queensland capital announced this year. In March, it launched its first Brisbane-Whitsundays flights and just last month it announced that services between Brisbane and Canberra are due to commence in September.

Flights for all three routes are now on sale through Tigerair and Flight Centre.
