Firo, formerly known as Zcoin, is a digital currency with a focus on setting privacy standards for the cryptocurrency market. Firo currently uses the Lelantus technology, which is a next-generation privacy protocol that is developed by Aram Jivanyan at Firo. This technology allows the protocol to burn any user’s coins and then be redeemed later for new tokens that don’t have a transaction history. Lelantus replaced the Sigma technology that made Zcoin one of the most prevalent privacy protocols used before cryptographic flaws were discovered in it back in 2019. Zcoin was rebranded to Firo in October 2020. It is the first project to deploy the Dandelion++ methodology back in 2018, which is a way of managing transactions that prevents third-party stakeholders from linking an IP address to a transaction. Due to its privacy and security, the underlying blockchain was used in the Thai Democrat Party’s primary election to elect their party leader. This made the election the world’s first large-scale political election on a blockchain.
