Transfer your flybuys to Velocity Points for a 10% bonus
If you want your next grocery shop to help you book your next holiday faster, you should take advantage of the latest offer from Velocity and flybuys. If you transfer your flybuys points to your Velocity frequent flyer account in July, you’ll get 10% more bonus points.
You can transfer a minimum of 2,000 flybuys points to receive 870 Velocity Points. This usually equates to 0.43 Velocity Points per 1 flybuys point, but while this promotion is in place, you’ll earn 1,044 Velocity Points for every 2,000 flybuys you move across.
You can use our flybuys and Velocity Points calculator to see how many frequent flyer points you could earn on your average grocery bill.
Double your Velocity Points and get 10% off your next car hire
If you have a road trip coming up, you could reward yourself by making your booking before the end of the month. If you book a car rental with CarTrawler by 31 July 2017, you’ll receive twice as many Velocity Points and get 10% off the time and kilometre charge.
If you’re hiring a car in Australia, you’ll earn 6 points per dollar spent (usually 3 points) or 1,600 points per international hire (usually 800 points). Just make sure you quote the promotional code 203747 when making the booking. See our guide to learn more about how to earn Velocity Points on car rentals.
Get your share of 21 million frequent flyer miles with Star Alliance
In a Rewards Roundup in May, we notified our readers that Star Alliance was celebrating its 20th anniversary by rewarding 21 winners with 1 million miles from one of its partner airlines. As the competition is due to close 31 July 2017, we’re giving you a little prod to throw your hat in the ring if you haven’t already.
To enter, you’ll need to upload a selfie from your favourite holiday or cultural experience, explain where you took the shot and what made it so memorable. You’ll also need to provide your contact information and the details of the partnered frequent flyer program you belong to. The winners will be announced and contacted on 28 September 2017.
Currently, 11 Star Alliance airlines fly to Australia, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Air Canada, United and Thai Airways. You can check out the terms and conditions and enter the competition on the Star Alliance website.
Redeem your Citi Rewards points at the Amazon checkout
Citi Rewards cardholders got one more way to redeem their points this week. On Monday, the bank announced a collaboration with Amazon that allows cardholders to redeem their Citi Reward points for products from the online store.
This means you can redeem your Citi Rewards for everything from books and homeware to fashion and the latest tech gadgets from the US Amazon store. If you don’t have enough points to redeem your preferred reward or if you'd rather not blow your points budget, you can also opt to use a combination of points and cash at the checkout.
Speaking of Citi, cardholders can also save 8% on hotel bookings when they use their card or Citi Rewards points to make hotel bookings by 15 December 2017.
Earn 100,000 Qantas Points with the Qantas American Express Ultimate credit card
The Qantas American Express Ultimate credit card currently boasts the biggest bonus Qantas Points offer in the market. If you spend $1,500 in the first three months, you’ll receive 100,000 bonus points. That’s enough to get you a return economy flight from Sydney to Los Angeles! This offer is only available for applicants who apply by 31 July 2017 through affiliate sites such as finder. If you apply through the Amex site, you’ll only redeem 55,000 bonus points when you meet the same spend requirements.
As well as the bonus points, you’ll also continue to earn 1.5 Qantas Points per dollar spent on eligible purchases, 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar spent on government transactions and 2.5 Qantas Points per dollar spent on purchases made with Qantas.
Other perks include complimentary travel insurance, two entries to the American Express Lounge at Sydney International Airport each year and a complimentary domestic return economy flight ticket from Qantas.
These benefits come at the cost of a $450 annual fee and a purchase rate of 20.47% p.a., so you should make sure the rewards outweigh the fees before you apply.
