finder Rewards Roundup: Qantas, Velocity and Amex

Sally McMullen 1 December 2017 NEWS

How to earn bonus points on everything from the movies to your next restaurant bill.

Whether you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer, Velocity lover or Membership Rewards fan, this week's Rewards Roundup is full of different ways you can earn bonus points on everything from movie tickets and Uber trips to travel cards and restaurant bills.

Earn double Qantas Points at HOYTS

Qantas is giving its frequent flyers double the reasons to visit the cinema over the next two weeks. If you’re a HOYTS Rewards member and a Qantas Frequent Flyer, you’ll earn twice as many points per dollar you spend on movie tickets and treats until 13 December 2017.

HOYTS Rewards Silver members can earn 4 points per $1 (rather than 2 points per $1), while HOYTS Bronze members will earn 2 points per $2 spent (instead of the usual 1 point per $2 spent).

This is one of the first bonus points offers Qantas has offered its frequent flyers since partnering with HOYTS in August, so this is another easy way to earn some extra points on everyday purchases.

Earn 1,000 bonus Qantas Points with Uber

To celebrate their recent union, Qantas and Uber are rewarding frequent flyers with 1,000 bonus Qantas Points this month. To snag the points, you just need to register for the offer and book an eligible domestic or international Qantas flight before 31 December 2017 for travel prior to 18 December 2018. This is on top of the standard Qantas Points you’d earn on the flight booking and eligible Uber trips to and from the airport.

If you’re already looking to book flights before the end of the month, you may as well register for the deal and snap up an extra 1,000 Qantas Points for nothing!

Collect and redeem Qantas Points when dining at Rockpool restaurants

As of today, Qantas Frequent Flyers can now earn and redeem points when dining at any of the 60 Rockpool Dining Group restaurants and bars across Australia. To celebrate this new rewards partnership, cardholders can earn double the points on their bills until 31 May 2017. You'll earn 4 Qantas Points per $1 spent on premium and casual dining or 2 Qantas Point per $1 spent on fast casual dining at participating Rockpool dining venues.

If you dine at any of the 60 Rockpool Dining Group restaurants and bars across Australia, you'll have the choice of earning Qantas Points or redeeming them to cover your bill.

You can also cover the cost of your bill with points. If you don't want to pay for the entire bill with points, you can opt to pay 4,000 Qantas Points per $20 of the transaction you wish to cover.

You can check out our full coverage on how you can earn and redeem Qantas Points at Rockpool restaurants for the full list of participating bars and eateries.

Earn up to 15,000 bonus Velocity Points when you top up your Global Wallet

Whether you’re travelling overseas or spending online, you could score up to 15,000 bonus Velocity Points when you load money on your Global Wallet card this month. Simply transfer your funds into one of the supported foreign currency wallets and you’ll earn between 2,000 and 15,000 bonus Velocity Points depending on how much you transfer.

Transfer amount Number of bonus Velocity Points
AUD$2,000 2,000 points
AUD$5,000 5,000 points
AUD$10,000 15,000 points

This is in addition to the two Velocity Points you’ll earn for every dollar you spend overseas. Qantas is running a similar offer until 15 December 2017, and they’re both simple ways you can pick up more points without spending any money.

Transfer your Amex Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors points for 50% bonus points

If you’ve been saving your Membership Rewards for a rainy day, now might be the time to cash them in. If you transfer your American Express Membership Rewards to your Hilton Honors account by 31 January 2018, you’ll score an extra 50% in points. As Membership Rewards transfer to Honors Points at a 1:1 exchange rate, it’s an easy way to give your hotel rewards balance a boost over the holidays.
