Meet the chic, eco-conscious brand setting a new standard for the period care industry.

Despite a massive shift towards sustainable living in recent years, it seems that some products are having a much harder time going green than others.

While sustainable menstrual hygiene products such as period undies and menstrual cups do exist, it's still difficult for those who prefer pads and tampons to find eco-friendly options.

With the average person set to use between 10,000 and 15,000 pads and tampons over the years they menstruate, New Zealand-born brand Me. is now offering a much-needed alternative to plastic-wrapped period products.

What makes Me. period care green?

Recently launched into the Australian market, Me.'s initial offering includes a range of pads and tampons that are every bit as eco-conscious as they are contemporary.

Arriving in sleek, recyclable cardboard packaging, each product is crafted from a considered blend of certified and sustainably sourced organic cotton core and organic-synthetic hybrid material.

Each pad and liner from the range features biodegradable wrappers and is free from synthetic dyes, fragrance and chlorine bleaching.

Additionally, all products are hypoallergenic, dermatologically tested and vegan, making them a safe choice for both the buyer and the environment.

It isn't just sustainable products that Me. is setting a new standard for though, with the brand also intensely passionate about opening up conversations around menstruation to combat stigma and reduce period poverty.

Me. marketing manager, Ally Rodwell, said in a statement, "Right from the outset, we've been putting our money where our mouth is and proving we're committed to social responsibility as a brand by engaging in a long-term charity partnership with KidsCan to help alleviate period poverty."

The company has also attempted to make its packaging as inclusive as possible, with the blue, fuss-free aesthetic designed to be a non-binary option in an otherwise overtly feminine market.

Where can I get it?

You can purchase the Me. femcare line in-store and online Australia-wide at Coles.

Packs of mini, regular and super tampons are available, along with regular, overnight and super pads. Each product from the line is priced at $4.50.
