These organic, ethically-sourced chocolate bars are even sweeter to eat when you know they support both people and the planet.

If you want some plant-based chocolate to treat a loved one or yourself, Loving Earth's chocolate bars give you a lot of options.

There are over 11 flavours to choose from including salted caramel, hazelnut and crunchy mint, with ingredients that are organic and free from dairy, soy, cane sugar and gluten.

Plus, you can get them from major supermarkets, online retailers and health food stores.

What makes Loving Earth chocolate bars green?

Loving Earth buys ingredients directly from the source and is committed to working with indigenous growers around the world.

For example, raw cacao comes from the Ashaninka community in Peru and Pink Lake salt comes from Western Victoria (Australia).

Each bar shows which ingredients are sourced through direct trade. And most ingredients are Australian Certified Organic (ACO), which is also shown in the ingredients list.

The bars are made in Australia, in a factory that's solar-powered. Even the packaging has been considered, with vegetable ink and recycled cardboard on the outside and a home-compostible inner wrapper.

We tried it and loved it

A friend bought me some Loving Earth chocolate as a gift and I was excited to try it out. Both the Hazelnut and Salted Caramel bars that I had tasted great.

They were rich, like dark chocolate, and had more texture than you'd typically find in a chocolate block from the confectionary aisle of your local supermarket. The quality of the ingredients was very clear to me – I am a chocolate lover and found that I only needed a little bit of this to feel satisfied.

I also appreciated the details on each packet. I wouldn't have known that the wrapper could be composted at home if I hadn't read that on the back. (Sometimes, compostible packaging needs to be processed in specialised facilities, which makes it harder to actually get it composted).

For people who want to focus on plant-based and relatively low processed foods, or are just generally into sustainable foods, this is a sweet treat I'd recommend.

I also think it's worth trying if you love chocolate – I'll be adding it to my rotation but probably won't give up my favourite chocolate brands any time soon either.

The only thing I would note is that it's not necessarily budget-friendly, with a recommended retail price of $6.90 for an 80g bar.

Where can I buy it?

Loving Earth chocolate bars have a recommended price of $6.90 and can be bought at Woolworths, Amazon, healthylife and some health food stores. You can also buy it through the Loving Earth website.
