Who offers the best price?
In a price comparison test, the lowest price for a one-way flight from Sydney to Cairns came out at $123 on Expedia.The same flight was also listed on Kayak for $122.
In a price comparison test both brands showed almost exactly the same price for similar flights.
Which offers a wider range of airlines?
In the above price comparison test Expedia compared the cost of flights for four airlines. Kayak, meanwhile, compared the price of flights on six carriers.
Two of these comparisons led to unhelpful options, however, such as a flight with Finnair for $6,532.
Both Expedia and Kayak compare a huge range of airlines worldwide to help you find the best deals on flights.
Any other differences worth noting?
If you’re flexible about your destination, you can search flights to “anywhere” with Kayak. Results for this search on Kayak are shown on an easy-to-use map, with their prices pegged.
What are deals like?
Expedia has a special deals section on its website. This page showcases offers like “Stay longer and save” and Expedia “Free Extras” as well as last-minute deals and early bird savings. An example of the latter is a flight from Perth and 4-nights accommodation in Phuket for $692 instead of $751.
Kayak doesn’t have a dedicated deals section on its website. On its homepage it has a few “Recommended for you” flights that come in at good prices. An example is a Sydney to Melbourne flight for $34 if you fly on specified dates.
Expedia showcases a greater number and range of deals on its website.
