How customers are shopping the sales this EOFY
Snagging a bargain is at the top of the list for EOFY shoppers.
When sale time rolls around, people get excited – and I mean, REALLY excited. And can you blame them? With discounts on everything from fashion and beauty to homewares and appliances, it's like Christmas all over again for the avid shopper.
End of Financial Year sales are definitely some of the most popular, and according to data from Salmat and ACRS, Australian shoppers are already nipping at the bit to get their hands on a bargain.
With data confirming that a majority of shoppers plan in advance for the EOFY sales, we're glad to know we're in good company. In fact, with 22% of people reporting that they start their shopping as soon as sales are announced (and then a following 32% starting sometime in June), most shoppers have already started. But are shoppers making this headway in store or online? Research suggests that although a physical store does influence customer decisions, the most popular way that people research and plan for the sales is online (42% of shoppers).
Given that an equal number of people prefer to browse and buy in store and online (35% of shoppers), this reiterates the need for strong online presences in the current shopping climate, particularly when competing against stores with established e-commerce presences.
What are the most popular items to buy this EOFY?
The EOFY sales are notorious for being some of the most heavily discounted, so it should come as no surprise that big ticket items like household goods and appliances are at the top of the list for a significant amount of consumers (37%).
Closely following that came consumer electronics (35%) and personal care and health (33%), with only 19% undecided shoppers who hadn't yet figured out what they are looking to purchase. With Australians expected to spend $26 billion on the EOFY sales, we're sure they'll figure it out soon.
