Emma Diamond Hybrid Mattress review

I'm one of those people who has put off investing in a new mattress for some time now. In fact, the one I was using had already celebrated its 10th birthday. While it had moulded to my body quite nicely, it was definitely too soft and was no longer giving me the support I needed.

It's safe to say I had to get a new mattress, so when I was given the opportunity to try the new Diamond Hybrid mattress from Emma, I could not say no. Here's exactly what I thought of it after testing it for a few weeks.

Design

As I mentioned, this is the first new mattress I've used in my adult life. The unboxing process has changed a lot in the last 10 years.

The Emma mattress arrived in a slim, rectangular cardboard box. I had yet to experience the magic of a "mattress-in-a-box", so I was pretty excited to get it all opened up.

The Emma mattress slid out of the box and unravelled itself with very little work on my end. I thought it was going to be a strenuous activity but I was pretty impressed – it was ready to be used in a matter of minutes.

Also, I didn't smell any weird odour (which can sometimes occur with a new mattress).

Now, what's so special about the Emma Diamond Hybrid mattress? What makes it different from others on the market?

Emma has recognised that in order for you to reach the ultimate deep sleep, your body temperature needs to be not too hot and not too cold. The technology used in this mattress is designed to help you achieve and maintain a regulated body temperature throughout the whole night.

The top layer of the mattress features foam technology infused with graphite particles and a graphite coating underneath. These work together to constantly dissipate excess heat.

The middle layer consists of an adaptive comfort foam that moulds to your body and provides pressure relief. The final and bottom layer is formed with HRX foam, offering additional support.

My bed frame only fits a double size bed, so that's what I went with. Emma also provides sizes for single, king single, queen and king.

In saying that, I did have some trouble putting on my fitted sheet (which is made for a double bed). I did make it fit in the end, with some extra push, but it still fit a little tight. The mattress height is approximately 25cm, which is taller than my previous one – so that's something to keep in mind if you've invested in a particular set of sheets.

What's it like to sleep on?

One of my favourite factors about this mattress is its comfort level. I can honestly say that I've never experienced such a comfortable and supportive sleeping environment before – hotel beds included.

However, it took me several nights to get used to it and my sleep was quite uncomfortable for the first few nights. Apparently, this is normal when you're transitioning to a new mattress but it did have me a little worried.

My previous mattress was incredibly soft (and old). So the Diamond Hybrid mattress was a shock to my body but, ultimately, it was one that I needed. My body got used to the new sleeping environment pretty quickly and now I hate having to leave my bed in the morning.

In terms of how well the mattress actually worked to regulate my body temperature, it was hard to tell. I tested the mattress in winter, so it wasn't hot enough to make a noticeable difference. However, if you're a hot sleeper and you find the Diamond Hybrid isn't cooling enough for you, you can always take advantage of Emma's 100-day free trial to send it back and try something else.

It also comes with a 10-year warranty, which Emma claims is the typical lifespan of a mattress.

Should you buy the Emma Diamond Hybrid Mattress?

  • Buy it if: You’re looking to invest in a supportive mattress and tend to overheat when you sleep.
  • Don't buy it if: You're looking for something affordable.

Overall, I give the Emma Diamond Hybrid Mattress 4.5 out of 5 stars. I appreciate the advanced technology used in this mattress, and all the materials used to ensure you get the best deep sleep of your dreams.

While I love how supportive and comfortable this mattress is, I did shave half a star off the rating due to it being a struggle to put on my fitted sheet.

Also, the double size retails for $1,499, which I wouldn't consider affordable and is more expensive than other similar styles on the market.

However, Emma regularly offers discounts and savings so it could be worth waiting for one to come around to secure your purchase.
