Looking for love and thinking of checking out eHarmony? You've come to the right place because we've broken down everything there is to know - from how it works to what's on offer with each membership plan.
We’re reader-supported and may be paid when you visit links to partner sites. We don’t compare all products in the market, but we’re working on it!
eHarmony is primarily targeted towards individuals over the age of 25 looking for a long-term relationship. This includes single parents, seniors and same-sex relationships.
According to eHarmony data, its members are made up of 51% men and 49% women. You can also be city and niche specific with the site. Some niches include Christian, single parent, ethnicity and senior dating.
eHarmony has been known to offer free trials in the past for a weekend or a few days. During these periods you'll have access to unlimited communication across the app and site without needing to upgrade.
The site offers basic and premium membership plans. In the basic version, you can score unlimited matches, respond to first messages, send and receive smiles and access greetings and icebreakers.
eHarmony's basic membership comes free of charge, but as with most dating sites there is an option to upgrade.
The premium subscription starts from $29.90, and the per-month rate gets cheaper the longer you sign up for. It includes:

Not sure how the site functions? We've broken it down into how you can cater the service to you.
eHarmony allows you to filter your criteria by location, deal breakers (drinking, smoking etc), height and even hair colour. Under the match preferences tab, members can adjust potential match criteria based on interests such as sports, music and outdoor activities.
The site's matching process is based on its compatibility matching quiz. Upon sign up, members take a questionnaire about themselves and what they would ideally like in a partner. From here, eHarmony will display all the members who match what preferences you've put in.
So when you come across someone's profile, you have two methods of reaching out. The main form of communication is through messages, which can be accessed via the envelope symbol. Otherwise, you can choose to send a 'smile' which sits just below the message option. If you have a basic membership, you won't be able to access the message function.
This can be broken down into three steps.
Creating a dating profile can be a daunting task. Luckily, there are a few things you can pop in that will have you ready to go in no time.
Start off with the top couple interests you're the most passionate about. This not only gives your potential matches an idea of what you like, but also a segway into a possible conversation.
Another important factor to note is to try to let your personality shine through in your profile. This could be as easy as popping in a joke or posing a question that will make you relatable to a possible match.
For example, you could bring to light your favourite travel destination and put that question to the person who is reading your profile.
Keeping safe online while dating can be done with a few tips and tricks. First and foremost, avoid putting your full name on a site. Keep it to just your first name and if possible, steer clear of disclosing your location to someone you've only just met.
In the case where you are trying to meet up, find a middle ground that doesn't put your address out there.
To stay safe online we also recommend that you avoid placing your social media on your profile.
