eBay has launched a voice-powered Gift Finder tool
Get your gifts sorted on eBay's biggest day of the year.
eBay shoppers, start your engines! Today is reportedly the most popular day of the year to buy big on eBay, and to celebrate the online giant has launched its very own voice-powered Gift Finder – through your Google Home.
Whether you're a hardcore eBay user or just buy the occasional hard-to-find piece, you can't deny that eBay is home to a crazy range of products. It looks like the rest of Australia agrees with you because over 2.7 million Australians will be visiting the platform today (with 1.8 million of them viewing on mobile).
Any Aussies within that number who still haven't nailed down all their Christmas gifts are in luck, with the voice-powered Gift Finder tool getting rolled out today. The tool will operate via the Google Assistant, allowing customers to simply say "Hey Google, ask eBay to find a gift".
From there, the assistant will prompt you with a series of questions to narrow down your search and find the perfect gift. If you're still struggling to figure out what to get your cousin's boyfriend's sister's dog (or whoever else is hard to buy for), this could be your saving grace.
The technology can ask things like favourite cities, entertainment and holidays to help select tailored gift options for all those hard-to-buy-for friends and family members. Additionally, a new "I want to buy" function has been added, allowing Aussie shoppers to find specific products on eBay.
So how big will today be? According to eBay analysts during the 15 minutes between 9am and 9:15am there will be a gift bought every eight seconds over mobile.
Gavin Dennis, eBay’s Chief Financial Officer and Head of Retail Insights said, “Australians are leading the way when it comes to mobile shopping globally and with 70 percent of all traffic on eBay coming from a mobile, it’s no surprise that this year’s busiest online shopping day will break mobile records."
Other eBay analyst projections show a Star Wars product bought every 60 seconds and over half the items will be purchased from local Aussie sellers. It's not surprising that Star Wars ranks so highly, with the new film coming out soon and plenty of stores jumping on the merchandise wagon.
Head on over to eBay Australia to check out some of the cool products, and if you've got a Google Assistant you can give the Gift Finder a go!
