What policies are available from DÜInsure?

Depending on your destination, you can choose between comprehensive and basic policies for international travel or trips around Australia. DÜInsure Travel Insurance also offers a Frequent Flyer option for local travel, as well as cover for one-way trips to or from Australia.

Comprehensive

This policy is ideal for international travel and provides extensive cover, including assistance and hospitalisation in medical emergencies overseas. Benefits include:

How do I apply for Downunder Travel Insurance?

  1. Compare policy options. Work out what you need and compare your options to find the right policy with the right features.
  2. Get a quote online. You can get a quote for your premium online by entering your personal and travel details into the website calculator.
  3. Read up on what’s covered. The product disclosure statement (PDS) provides detailed information on the amount of cover you get under the terms of the contract. Make sure that it meets your expectations before agreeing to purchase.
  4. Check out any additional options available. You can add to your policy’s benefits with optional extras like Business Cover or Snow Cover.

How do I make a claim with Downunder?

  • Get in touch. For medical, dental or hospital claims, get in touch with AGA. For other claims, file your claim with Allianz’s Client Services department within 30 days of your return to Australia.
  • Provide evidence. You will be asked to submit documents pertaining to your claim, including reports from police and medical professionals, valuations, proof of ownership and legal documents.
  • Cooperate. The quicker and more complete your submission, the faster your claim will be processed. Any delay, omission or deliberate attempt at fraud will result in your claim being rejected or your policy being cancelled.

Q. Who can apply for this policy?

  • A. You are eligible for travel cover if you are a resident of Australia, if you purchase the policy before starting your journey, and if your journey begins and ends in Australia.

Q. What’s the age limit for these policies?

  • A. Different age limits depending on the policy, but Downunder Travel Insurance will insure travellers aged up to 90 years old following a medical declaration and certain additional premiums. Details are laid out in the PDS.

Q. How does cover for one-way travel work?

  • A. Non-residents of Australia can apply for travel insurance covering a one-way outbound journey. Downunder Travel Insurance one-way inbound travel insurance is only available to Australian residents. Both policies provide full cover, including unlimited medical assistance and hospitalisation expenses overseas.

Q. What are some of the additional options available?

  • A. You can apply for additional insurance, including Business Cover, Snow Cover and Rental Vehicle Excess Cover. Business Cover comes standard as part of the Frequent Traveller Business plan. You also have the choice of removing the standard excess by paying an additional premium (not available on the Australia Only plan).

Q. I’m pregnant. Am I eligible for cover?

  • A. Yes. You are covered up to 26 weeks of a single pregnancy and 19 weeks of a multiple pregnancy.

Q. Can I cancel my Downunder travel insurance policy if I’m not happy with it?

  • A. You have a 14-day cooling-off period during which you can cancel your policy. As long as you haven’t left on your journey or filed a claim, you’re eligible for a full refund.

Q. Who underwrites Downunder?

  • A. Downunder Travel Insurance is underwritten by Allianz Australia Insurance Ltd. In the case of an emergency, assistance will be provided by Allianz Global Assistance (AGA).
