The Diwali sales have already kicked off and there's a lot more to look forward to on the way.

We've rounded up a bunch of the best Diwali deals and a collection of other discounts being offered in line with the dates of the Diwali preparations and the festival itself. Explore them all below.

Diwali Day 1

The first day is known as Dhanteras and is dedicated to celebrating prosperity. Dhanteras Goddess Laxmi is worshipped to provide prosperity and wellbeing, and thus this is the day of the celebration that holds the most significance to businesses.

Diwali Day 2

The second day is called Naraka Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali and the celebrations involve a ritual puja to Goddess Lakshmi as well as to Rama in the evening. It is Diwali on a smaller scale, with fewer lights burning.

Diwali Day 3

The third day of celebration is Amavasya, also known as the new moon day, and is regarded as the most important day of the Diwali festival. It is devoted entirely to the Goddess Lakshmi. This is the day on which the sun enters its second course and passes Libra. The design of Libra (scales or balance) is believed to have represented the balancing of account books and their closing. It begins in the morning as the women of the houses make coloured rangoli (patterns are created on the floor using materials such as coloured rice, dry flour, coloured sand or flower petals) in the doorways and courtyards. Tiny footprints made out of rice paste are a special feature of the rangolis specific for Diwali.

Diwali Day 4

The fourth day lends its dedication to the sacred bond of marriage between husband and wife. It is known as Diwali Padva and is a celebration of love.

Diwali Day 5

The fifth and final day of Diwali celebrations is known as Bhai Duj. It serves to celebrate the relationship between brothers and sisters. Siblings share food during the day to strengthen the bond between them.

How is Diwali celebrated?

In preparation for Diwali night, people clean, renovate and decorate their homes and workspaces. Diwali is a massive celebration associated with Hinduism. It translates to festival of light and serves to celebrate the continuing victory of light over darkness. It also symbolises new beginnings and is usually celebrated over 5 days.

On Diwali itself, people dress up in new clothing, decorate their hands with henna and surround themselves with family and friends. Prayer is a huge part of the celebration and the day draws to a close with a bountiful feast shared among a family's nearest and dearest as well as an impressive display of lights. Fireworks, lanterns and candles light up the darkness.

Retailers use this festival as an opportunity to offer their own exclusive Diwali sales.

What are Diwali customs and traditions?

The literal meaning of Diwali (or Deepavali, as it's also known) is "a row of lamps". Filling clay lamps with oil and lighting them in rows around the house is a tradition that is popular in most regions of India and in Hindu households across the globe.

There is also great significance to each of the individual days. From the hopes for wealth and prosperity (day 1) to the love between a husband and wife (day 4); and the bond between brothers and sisters (day 5), each is celebrated with prayer, gifts or special rituals to promote positivity in their new beginning.

Diwali falls on day 3 and is the centre of all the celebrations.

When do Diwali sales start?

This year Diwali celebrations commence on 22 October and will continue through to 26 October. Most online sales will run throughout this period. However, Amazon has announced that its Great Indian Sale discounts and deals will start to land on 3 October. Other retailers partaking in the Diwali sales event will be running to and from different dates in conjunction with this massive celebration of light.

Which retailers are getting involved?

As Diwali has become one of the most prominent shopping events in India, many top online retailers have marked this religious festival with discounts and deals across thousands of products.

Amazon is one to watch in the approach to the Diwali celebrations and sale events. It has intuited the wave of Indian customers and its Great Indian Sale has been held annually since 2016. Amazon is expected to offer some fabulous deals that will help to make the season even more exciting. Expect fantastic discounts on LED TVs, smartphones, clothing, appliances and home furnishings. Amazon Prime members are expected to be offered exclusive access to this event up to 12 hours earlier than regular Amazon shoppers.

eBay and Etsy are also expected to join in the sales although specific dates are yet to be announced. Customers can look forward to discounts across everything from tech and electronics to homewares, furniture and beyond.

In 2021, Klook offered a site-wide discount code allowing customers to book travel, transport and day trips for a fraction of the usual cost. We're predicting something similar this time round to be offered here.
