The arrival of Disney+ has seen 12 Disney originals debut.

Original titles have become one of streaming services' biggest plays. That's why when entertainment conglomerate Disney launched Disney+ everyone wanted to know if that'd mean originals.

Information was released that there would be Disney originals, such as The Mandalorian and Lady and the Tramp. However, there was still no confirmation of the full list.

Now that Disney+ has officially launched in the USA, Netherlands and Canada, we've seen 12 Disney originals released, all in 4K quality too.

Disney will also be debuting several new titles in 2020 that will only be available on Disney+. Many of these are Marvel titles, some which will cost $20 million or more per episode to produce.

As we move towards Christmas the movie Noelle could be this year's big hit. Then as mentioned above, The Mandalorian is sure to have fans excited. It's the first ever live-action Star Wars TV series and will be released with weekly episodes.

Interestingly there's also the SparkShorts collection, which is a series of short films. Disney has been renowned over the years for some of the mini movies it has created. These are typically shown as a preview in a cinema, but now can be debuted on Disney+.

Disney+ originals are a mix of films, TV shows, documentaries, short films and special features.

Streaming originals

Streaming services have moved against solely broadcasting everyone else's shows.

Netflix has created the popular and loved series Bojack Horseman, Stranger Things and Orange is the New Black. This has been one of Netflix's key successes.

Then there's Amazon Prime which has rolled out Sneaky Pete, The Marvelous Mrs. Maivel and Patriot. Sneaky Pete alone has drawn rave reviews including a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Apple's brand new subscription service Apple TV+ is built purely on originals. At least for now it remains so, but it'd be a shock if it were to stay this way forever. Apple TV's Morning Wars was the platform's headliner but has so far drawn mixed reviews.

You'll be sure to keep an eye on the news to see what else Disney has up its sleeve. As the only two things for certain: originals are here to stay and streaming services are continually investing heavily in them.

Looking into the future it seems like we'll see Disney+ and Netflix go head to head.
