Direct Hong Kong flights from $549 on Virgin Australia

Posted: 3 April 2018 11:04 am

There is a new route launching 2 July, and flights are on sale now.

Earlier this year Virgin Australia announced it was launching direct, daily flights between Sydney and Hong Kong, and now a day has been set for the inaugural flight: 2 July 2018.

And in true Virgin Australia fashion, the airline is celebrating with a sale on first flights.

Sydney to Hong Kong fares start at just $549 return and are available on flights between 18 July and 13 September.

That's not the only route on sale either. In conjunction with the launch, Virgin has also updated its Melbourne to Hong Kong flight schedule. These will soon depart from Melbourne at 00:30am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays as opposed to 10am. Prices on this leg are also on sale from $549 return for July to September dates.

Completing the trifecta, the airline also has sale flights from Brisbane starting at $589 return.

These fares are available until midnight 9 April 2018 and can be booked direct with Virgin Australia.

How good are these fares?

When on sale, direct flights to Hong Kong tend to hit the $500 range, so this one is right up there with standard sale prices. That being said, we have seen rival airline Qantas drop the dollars down to $449 return though this is only at the very best of times.

It's also worth noting that while July to September is Hong Kong's summer, they are also some of its rainiest months. Hong Kong gets up to 80% of its annual rainfall between May and September. Our advice? Travel during September to avoid the worst of it while still cashing in on the sale.
