DigitalBits is a decentralised and open-source blockchain that helps to empower brands with digital assets. Called the “blockchain for brands,” DigitalBits offers individuals and businesses a protocol that can generate branded currencies, stablecoins, and also non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Created by the DigitalBits Foundation, the project involves an expansive ecosystem of partners, services, developers, and organisations that are working together to achieve a deeper and more reliable connection between fans and brands.
According to the project’s website, the DigitalBits blockchain was created from a fork of Stellar Lumens (XLM) in 2017. As a result, DigitalBits is fast, scalable, and eco-friendly. Although using Stellar Lumen’s code as a base, the blockchain introduced specific improvements, including a fixed token supply, multi-hop technology that facilitates on-chain trades, an algorithmic token distribution that rewards users for every transaction, and the Token Name Certification Service (TNCS) that verifies the authenticity of token issuers.
The protocol’s economy is powered by the native cryptocurrency coin, XDB. XDB is required by all participants that wish to utilise DigitalBits for the creation of branded cryptocurrencies. A minimum of 10 XDB tokens must be staked before access to the system is granted. The XDB token is also required for all transactions that are executed within the blockchain.
