Melbourne is stylish, artsy and proud to be called the “culture capital of Australia”. This is the birthplace of brunch, chic cafes and hipster trends. Drink coffee, go to a museum or take to the grandstands to watch the Grand Prix - Melbourne has it all and much more.
Accommodation choices in Melbourne are as numerous as its cafes and cater to all budgets and tastes, from luxurious hotels to budget hostels.

While the CBD is compact and rather walkable, if you're going to areas like St Kilda or are arriving by plane at either Tullamarine or Avalon, you'll need to take public transport, a taxi/uber, book an airport shuttle or get a hire car.
The city has an extensive tram network, which is free to use within the designated free tram zone (see the map below). There are also trains and buses to get to areas outside of the city centre.
Paying for transport: An electronic Myki card can be bought for $6 and topped up at train stops or local retailers. Trips are free within the CBD free tram zone or $4.10 per trip for transport outside the free tram zone. The Myki card can be used on all trains, trams and buses.
Best apps for getting around: Public Transport Victoria provides a free app that has countdowns for trains, trams and buses. It shows locations for Myki retail outlets and includes a journey planner.
Taxi: You can hail a taxi from the street or find them at taxi ranks at busy locations throughout the city. Taxis can be called in advance for a booking.
Uber: Uber is available throughout Melbourne. If you're planning on taking an UberX to/from the airport, expect to pay about $49-$63 from Tullamarine Airport or $90-$120 from Avalon Airport. Other rideshare services, including Didi and Ola are also available.
Visit Federation Square, shop on Bourke Street Mall or browse the funky shops in Fitzroy. Culture vultures can pop into the National Gallery of Victoria in between coffees and brunch in DeGraves Street. If you're a sport fan, catch a match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
If you're staying in the city for more than a couple days, head further afield and take a day trip out to Great Ocean Road and see the sea cliffs, beaches and wildlife along the panoramic stretch of Victoria's coast. The Yarra Valley, Victoria's renowned wine region, is within easy reach of the city with vineyards as close as an hour from Melbourne's CBD.

finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We compare from a wide set of major banks, insurers and product issuers.
finder.com.au has access to track details from the product issuers listed on our sites. Although we provide information on the products offered by a wide range of issuers, we don't cover every available product. You should consider whether the products featured on our site are appropriate for your needs and seek independent advice if you have any questions.
Products marked as 'Promoted' or "Advertisement" are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options and find the best option for you.
The identification of a group of products, as 'Top' or 'Best' is a reflection of user preferences based on current website data. On a regular basis, analytics drive the creation of a list of popular products. Where these products are grouped, they appear in no particular order.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labelling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
Providing or obtaining an estimated insurance quote through us does not guarantee you can get the insurance. Acceptance by insurance companies is based on things like occupation, health and lifestyle. By providing you with the ability to apply for a credit card or loan we are not guaranteeing that your application will be approved. Your application for credit products is subject to the Provider's terms and conditions as well as their application and lending criteria.
